Ain’t She Sweet?

So they’re starting the kids early in the communication department. This week began poetry memorization in 1st grade. My youngest had to learn the poem she received on Monday so that she could say it in front of the class today – apparently this will be a weekly occurrence. She will be graded on memorization, enunciation, projection, eye contact with the class and whatever the word would be for not fidgeting! lol

I ended up filming her because she insisted that she wasn’t looking up at the ceiling while she was talking. This was the only way I could make a believer out of her! Silly Chick! This was the final vid I took this morning and she did it perfectly.

Here she is in all her glory. She insisted on wearing a dress today so that she could curtsy after she was done. Thank God for cameras with video so we can keep this for the rest of our lives! 🙂

  1. Amy – it is a good idea. I just wish they had given us a little more time. Between trying to memorize this and her spelling words I thought her little head would start spinning! But she did good. (Now we just have to see how she does on her spelling test! lol)

Holly – I know, it’s that hilarious! I kept asking her when she learned to curtsy so well and she just looked at me like I’d lost it. 🙂

    Sayuri – I WILL! 🙂

Rowena – Awww thanks! Yes, the kitchen is what sold me on the house – that and all the other things the original owner had done to the place. The wife is a chef so she wanted a large kitchen – then they sold the place – go figure. Oh well, my gain! 🙂

  2. Aw! What a cutie@ That’s a really big deal. I teach in elementary school and I have not heard of 1st graders having to do that. She did a fabulous job.

  3. Shannon – Yeah, I’ve not heard about any other school doing this – even in the same district. Who knows, maybe it’s just this particular teacher.

    Jen – thanks!

  4. Oh my gosh, that is soooo cute!

My daughter is in first grade too, but she doesn’t have to memorize anything. I think it’s good for them.

  5. Jill – well color me jealous! lol Yes, this is good for the kids but yet it’s just one more thing to have to do. 🙂 Yeah, it’s true, I can be lazy! lol

  6. Awww – thanks Rosie. She did a really great job. I found out that this won’t be a weekly thing, but a monthly thing. The other times she will be a “responsibe listener”….which is soooo not her thing! lol
