Here She Is: Miss A*Lane*E*Us

Alright…random post for the week #1. Possibly the only one, I’m just not sure yet!

Item 1: The DIK Blog normally has the first week of every month reserved for Authors to come and play on the island. Well for September we’ve stirred things up and it’s Author month at the DIK. We’ve got some great authors that will be visiting so check every day:

  • We’ve had Ann Aguirre for the past 2 days and then again today.

Item 2: Rant…if you don’t want to hear it go straight to Item 3: I’m mad at my Borders. This is something new and different and I’m usually screaming how much I love my Borders. Yeah, now? Not so much. So I went in on Saturday (the 30th) to buy several books, which I did. However, I was looking for Tempt Me With Darkness by Shayla Black which had been released on the 26th. It was nowhere in sight and when I looked in the computer it said, “on it’s way, reserve at front desk”. Huh? Usually this store has them out early, which is great but not necessary. I just want them there on the release date. So I had to go to Barnes and Noble to get it. I don’t particulary care for the B & N near me. They’re kinda snooty and don’t have very good customer service. They don’t have those handy customer computers either which I find annoying.

Anyway…so I went in to Borders again yesterday to get Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh (yes I’ve already read it but I have to complete my Psy/Changeling set!) and Noah by Jacquelyn Frank. Do they have them? NO! I look in the computer and what does it tell me? You guessed it, “on it’s way, reserve at front desk”! How incredibly frustrating. So I’ve done something that I’ve never done and written a complaint letter to the manager of the store. It was not easy to do A) because I’ve never done it before and it just felt odd and B) it limited me to 1000 words which was 3 small paragrahs. Not much to tell you what the problem is. Oh well. I’m pretty sure nothing will be fixed but I did have to let them know I was disappointed and frustrated.

Item 3: Tomorrow (yes, that’s Thursday the 4th) on THIS BLOG I will have The One, The Only Katiebabs from Ramblings on Romance reviewing a book. Woohoo – let’s all do the happy dance! Happy Dance

  1. I love that nun pic. hahaha

I hate my B&N, too. They have awful customer service and their selection of romance sucks donkey balls. But lately I haven't been super impressed with the inventory at Borders, either, which is why I buy 90% of my stuff at Amazon. Which also happens to be cheaper.

I say good on you for writing a letter to the manager. I'm a much bigger bitch than you are, though, because I would have asked to see a manager while I was there. 😛

YAY for the DIK blog author month. ;0)

  2. Usually B&N are notorious for never having books on their release day. Borders sometimes have them out early. Sorry your book buying experience wasn't better 🙁

    Always need more DIK!

Um, no pressure on my part at all. *gulp*

  3. My B&N seems to employ snooty people too. And they don't usually have my new releases stocked.

The borders I go to is not bad with new releases but they had very few copies of HtP. Unless there were people in before 11am then they only recieved two copies! The mall opens at 10 so I doubt any one was in yet for it. That just seems crazy to me…only two copies.

  4. Isn't the nun great? lol I love her. 🙂

Holly – Yeah, I don't particularly love B & N's inventory either but if they're gonna have what I want when I want it…I don't know – I'll have to see if anything comes of my letter.
I probably would have asked to see the manager if I wasn't in a hurry to go get the kids from child care. Never enough time! 🙂
    Yay DIK author month!

KB – well if Borders doesn't get their act together then I'll be at that other place! Yay you! 🙂

Amy – why are they so snooty? I don't get it – they're just reg. people like me and you!
2 copies of HtP??? That's crazy wrong!

  5. Can I say the reason Borders is not getting in new releases on release day and scaling back thier inventory is because they are in middling to serious finical trouble.

Before they sold the UK arm off they weren’t paying bills etc. If that’s what it was like in the UK I’m thinking it’s the same for the US.

  6. Well that sucks! lol I know they were putting themselves up for sale…or that was the rumor in March, but I haven't heard anything.

The thing is they're getting the books in, just not on time. Bummer. I did end up going to B&N (YUCK) and getting the books I wanted.

  7. My fave Borders is still rockin' with their shelving. It's at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga btw. If we ever get our stuff together and have another SoCal Blogger get together you'll get to see it.

B&N is right here where I live and from the day it opened never has books shelved on release day. I ask and half the time the bookseller can't locate the book(s) in the store. Raises my blood pressure sometimes I tell you.

  8. I had a frustrating experience the last few release days at my Borders, too. The clerk tries to be helpful, but never manages to find the book I want anywhere in the store. I was looking for Hostage to Pleasure–because I'm like the last person to read it and it came out two days ago– and I came home empty handed. (I bet Sayuri is right–Borders used to be so much better at stocking new releases. The last few months, not so much.)

Of course I went to B&N a few hours later and there it was. I think I may be switching back to B&N. It's a lot closer to my house and they seem to have a better batting record these days. Just started HtP last night. Meow. =)

  9. Christine – hopefully Borders can get their act together…all over America. If they’re going to stay open they need to do that!

    Isn’t HtP great? LOVED IT!
