We recently received an email asking if we could help locate an older Sci-Fi Romance novel.
Does any of this sound familiar? Help!!!!
Several years ago, I had this fabulous book…and lost it. It was published (I think) somewhere between 1990-2004. I remember the cover and plot all too well. What I don’t remember is the title, author, year published, etc. You have no idea how many hours that I have googled, yahooed, asked, web-crawled….and it’s a bunch. I have also showed up on every website imaginable looking for this book. My husband and cats are ready to put me out on the driveway and leave me with the computer. I thought since all of you know Sci/Fi romance fantasy books, that you might know what this is. The book has an odd title, and I believe the author is female. It might be Young Adult, but sophisticated.
Cover: pastel, rainbow, shimmering colors. There was some kind of glossy finish over the top of part of the book, because it really did shimmer in the light. emeralds, sapphires, and mauves. It was what first attracted me to it; this gorgeous book cover. It was pale as well, not the usually vibrant colors you see on most sci/fi fantasy books. I believe there were two silvery merfolk swimming in this sea. There may have been a pale mauve Zodiac wheel just off center (that glistened). I believe the author was female, because I exclaimed “I’ve never read one of hers before”. And the name of the book just didn’t match what I thought it would. There was no mention of merfolk, mermaids, or anything remotely like that in the title. The narrative was so beautiful like the pastel sea on the cover. The chapters may have been named.
Chapter One: The gentle Pisceans/merfolk/selkies, etc were trying to fortify themselves and learn how to defend themselves against the outside threat of the fire signs Aries/Sagittarians, especially a fire-mage. War was coming. The two merfolk were lovers, and knew if war came, they would be divided. It seems that everyone was intent on constructing “gates” underwater for defense. I may be wrong about that.
Chapter Two: The fire-mage launches his war. He is really evil and is totally committed to annihilating the Pisceans. The lovers are parted, and uncertain if they’ll ever see each other again.
Chapter Three: The war finally concludes. The Pisceans have won, but their undersea way of life is shattered. Casualties have been high. Whole families have been killed. The lovers are united, however.
That’s it…that’s all I can remember. Because of the astrology involved; water signs vs. fire signs, I was reminded of Pat Wallace’s “House of Scorpio”
I wish I could remember the characters names. It’s so odd that this book which made such an impact on me, should remain so amphorous. Thank you so much for your time.
Come on ladies, I know one of you out there has heard of this novel….
Oh wow, I have no idea.
It sounds like something I’d like to read though.
I’m not a fan of Sci Fi, so I wouldn’t know about this one..sorry sweets!
