He’s never lost a bet in his life but she’s playing for keeps!

Cassandra Bishop’s boyfriend is back. Only problem is…she doesn’t want anything to do with him. Or his new fiancée. What the confirmed tomboy would like is to wring his neck. She might have done it, too, if he hadn’t filled her in on the embarrassing truth that he’d left her at the altar because she wasn’t woman enough to satisfy him. Her pride nearly settled for punching him in the nose…until she thought of something better—proving him wrong.

High on Burke Hallifax’s list of cataclysmic nightmares is having to look at his best friend as a real female. But when her ex-fiancé makes his wedding a personal vendetta against Cass, Burke has no choice but to bet everything on her ability to out hot-girl the competition. Unfortunately, the entire town is betting as well—on whether Burke and Cass can pull off the makeover of the century…without losing their hearts in the process.

Betting Hearts features two of my favourite themes – friends to lovers and tomboy into I am Woman, hear me Roar (aka the ugly duckling).

Cass and Burke have been best friends forever. Even when Cass was engaged to pond scum Luke, her and Burke were like two peas in a pod. But all that changes when tomboy Cass wants to set loose that woman inside of her that’s been dying to get out.

No one thinks she can do it, let alone her ex-fiance Luke, who makes a bet with Burke that Cass won’t be transformed by his wedding (a couple of weeks down the road). Burke, who really really hates change is enlisted to help Cass with her makeover because he’s a lady’s man, so he knows more about women than Cass does. (I kind of had a problem with that, but whatever, it works for the plot.)

As the makeover progresses, Burke begins to realize that he has feelings for Cass and he’s had them for some time. Cass is starting to have feelings for him too – so eventually they make that switch from friends to lovers. Which freaks the hell out of Cass. (I liked this, because usually the guy freaks out.) Burke is a little freaked, but quickly decides he wants Cass forever, so she better get used to it.

And they get to rub the ex-fiance’s face in the gloriousness that is Cass. Woot!

I had fun reading this book. Like I said, it features two of my favourite themes, so can’t go wrong with that. I’ll definitely be reading Dee’s next book. 😛

  1. Holly-I like when that happens too. AND, something else happens to the ex.

Carolyn-I usually don’t like bets, but Cass knows about this one in this case, so its all good.
