Melissa‘s Guest review of Bloody Bones, book five in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

“WHEN THE MONSTERS ARE INVOLVED, IT”S NEVER JUST ONE DEAD BODY. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER THE DEAD MULTIPLY.”

First, there were the dead in the graveyard, two-hundred years dead. I’d been hired to raise them to settle a dispute over who owned the land they were buried in. Then there were the three dead teenagers in the woods, slaughtered in a way I had never seen before. And then they found the dead girl, drained of blood and left in her bed. I knew what that meant, all right. It didn’t take a degree in preternatural studies to figure out that something was very wrong in and around Branson, Missouri. And I was right in the middle of it. My name is Anita Blake. Welcome to my life…

I am totally hooked on this series!

The book starts on St. Patrick’s day. Anita’s full time animator job calls her out of town. She is going to raise some dead for a land dispute. Money talks, so off she goes, but it is never just an easy thing. Anita hasn’t even been in town for 24 hours and the dead she is suppose to raise is not what she expected, police need her, and she meets a fairy. Well, through the police work, she needs more help. So, who does she call? One of her boyfriends.

Now, the bad boys, and girls are definitely not playing fair, combining their powers to kick butt. Good will reign over evil, but Anita finds something inside herself, hidden power/skills that she wasn’t aware she had. So, the question is: Who is really the good guy anymore?

I wish Anita would just make up her mind already and get with one of her boyfriends. They are both being good sports. I don’t think that is gonna last too much longer.

My favorite line from the book:

It was St. Patrick’s Day, and the only green I was wearing was a button that read, “Pinch me and your dead meat.”

Where can I find one??

4 out of 5

This book is available from Jove. You can buy it here or here in e-format.
