Over a month ago Holly and I (Casee) decided that we were going to take on a new mission in life. Because really, we don’t have enough going on as it is. We needed a new project.
So what should it be?
A Reading Challenge? A Count How Many Books You Own Challenge? A Find New Authors Challenge? Nothing sounded quite right.
Then I had a conversation with a historical romance loving friend (you know who you are) that went something like this:
Me: Have you read [insert title here] by Jo Goodman?
Friend: Who?
Me: Jo Goodman. Seriously, you’ve never read her?
Friend: Nope.
Me: Well, you should. Try If His Kiss Is Wicked. You’ll really like it.
Friend: It’s not going to be like that one book by [insert author I loved that she hated here].
Me: gasp How can you doubt me after all these years? Go buy it and you’ll love it.
Shortly after that conversation, I was lamenting to Holly about the fact that way too many people have never read or maybe never even heard of Jo Goodman. Which just seems wrong. In my opinion, which is not so humble, Jo Goodman writes the kind of sweeping historicals that Judith McNaught or Julie Garwood write. The kind of book whose characters will stay with you long after you’ve finished the book.
That’s when the idea for the “Read Jo Goodman Crusade” was born. Now we actually came up with this idea at the beginning of February. With Holly’s nuptuals and my vacation, we feel that we can finally give this Crusade the time it deserves.
So in this, Vol 1, of the Read Jo Goodman Crusade, we only have one question for our lovely readers.
Have you read a Jo Goodman book?
If your answer to that is no, here are a few suggestions. We say suggestions because we’re really telling you to click on the freaking links below and order right now. No pressure or anything.
If His Kiss Is Wicked
A Season to Be Sinful
These are a few books that we feel can be stand alones.
Haven’t read any of her stuff. Seen the covers and some reviews around but I’m not really a big historical fan. So, I’m just kind of…meh about the whole situation.
I tried to read her older stuff, and they were just bad IMO.
Then I tried the book with the Compass crew. Skanky brother lusts after his sister while he paints trees on her as she sings in the opera.
Another crusade! I already have this on my list per your suggestion. I will let you know when I become worthy to count myself among you.
If his Kiss is Wicked is one of the best Romances I have ever read. But I havent tried any other book by her so far….dont know where to start!
I haven’t read any Jo Goodman novels either. Like Mollie, historical romance simply doesn’t appeal to me as much as other romance genres, but I will jump on the historical romance bandwagon and read one if it is raved about by a lot of different reviewers/bloggers/reading friends …*looking up*… Like Ana, for example! lol I think If His Kiss Is Wicked is one such book.
Funnily enough, I just finished my first ever Goodman and I thought it was really good. I am definitely looking to read more by her! The book I finished was One Forbidden Evening.
I’ve long been a fan of Jo Goodman – have ever since I read More Than You Wished back in 2001. So I’ll add my voice to yours in urging readers to give her books a read!
I haven’t read Jo Goodman… yet. I’ll report back to you ladies as soon as I do.
Yup, raising my hand, too. I haven’t read her either. I know, I know!
I’ve read and enjoyed her! Looking forward to more.
I’ve read If His Kiss and loved it. The depth at which Goodman writes is just awesome. I have A Season to be Sinful in my TBR pile waiting to be read.
I read those two books you mentioned after seeing all the raves here! She’s great.
Why did I think I already responded to this thread…my bad.
I haven’t read Jo Goodman yet but I do plan n it..it’s right up there with Karen Templeton.
FOR real.
