Millionaire baseball player Kevin Rossi is quite a catch…

Harper Poole’s Harvard MBA and killer instincts have made her a high-powered assistant at a software firm that generates billions. No one would ever guess she’s been keeping a secret: that she isn’t the trust fund baby everyone thinks she is, but was really raised in a trailer park in western Pennsylvania. Harper has a great life and has everything she wants—except love. But a one-night stand at a wedding with the bride’s brother can help take a girl’s mind off anything.

Kevin Rossi is a superstar major league catcher who can have any woman he wants. So when Harper discovers she’s pregnant after their one night of passion, she has no intention of making any demands on him. It will just be another secret to keep. But when the two meet again a year later, Harper wrestles with her choice—especially when her heart longs for the father of her baby…

Harper and Kevin can’t seem to stay away from each other at Kevin’s sister’s wedding. They end up in the wine cellar making whoopie…and making a baby.

Now it’s a year later and Kevin is back in town and Harper’s got a great big case of the guilts. While Harper and Kevin had been seeing each other for a bit after they first had sex, no one actually knew that they were dating. Then Kevin took a baseball contract in San Diego (Harper lives in NY) and he was gone. Now that he’s in town Harper realizes her mistake in not telling him about his daughter so she invites him over to tell him.

To say that Kevin isn’t happy with Harper for keeping pregnancy/baby a secret is putting it mildly. He’s justifiably pissed but is completely entranced by his daughter. He finds that as pissed as he is at Harper he can’t seem to get her out of his head. He semi understands her reasons but that doesn’t make them right. His family is considerably mad at Harper as well and this makes him protective of Harper.

Soon everyone cools down and Kevin and Harper start seeing each other again but there’s more strife to come. Harper wasn’t forthcoming about her childhood and this causes more issues between the two. The pair love each other but there may be too many emotional hurdles in their way to be together.

The Secret Wedding is more like The Secret Baby. Yes, Kevin and Harper had sex at a wedding and kept it a secret – for a while – but really that wasn’t the premise of the book at all. The story revolved around the fact that after that wedding rendezvous, Harper kept the fact of her pregnancy and the birth of her child a secret from the baby’s father. Her reasoning for keeping the baby a secret was…far fetched. What it really came down to was that Harper was unsure of the reception of the news so kept it a secret. Not a good enough reason in my book. I have to admit she really did everything she could, once she told Kevin, to make things right. She was open and giving to him and to his family and made the baby, Anna, available to her aunts, uncles and grandmother. Harper was a really good person she had just made one major mistake. I liked her but I really couldn’t identify with her at all and this caused me to not feel as connected to her as a character as I felt I should be.

Now Kevin, he was a jerk. He grew throughout the book and that was awesome, but for most of the book he wasn’t all that great. He had a temper, and was kind of a hot-head, and when he should have been understanding he lost his mind in anger. He was stubborn and selfish as well which weren’t pluses in my book! Now he could be kind and warm at times, especially to his daughter, which brought him up a few notches in the ratings.

The story was pretty hot in the sex department, that’s for sure. As much as I couldn’t relate to the hero and heroine I did like the writing in the book. It definitely kept my attention and kept me turning pages – a very good thing.

What I Read Last Week

Posted May 19, 2014 by Tracy in Features | 2 Comments

Well another week has gone by and here we are again. 🙂 It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day here in So Cal. The heat last week was unbearable so I’m hoping it stays in the 70’s today. Hey, I’d even take the low 80’s at this point! lol

This weekend was pretty cool. I attended the wedding of my boss and her partner and it was beautiful. They’re just so cute together! 🙂 My oldest daughter, sap that she is, was bawling during the ceremony cuz she thought it was so sweet, which it was. 🙂 Not only is my boss her priest but her partner is the bell conductor for the bell choir that my girls are in so she has a pretty strong attachment to both women.

Anyway, on to what I read last week:

I started off the week with Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh. Holy guacamole this was a good book. This is Vasic’s romance which I’ve been waiting forever for! I’ve really liked him since the first moment he came on page so it was wonderful reading about his romance with Ivy – an Psy of E designation. The story that throws them together is incredible and I definitely recommend reading it. 5 out of 5

Whisper to Me by Christina Lee is book 3 in the Between Breaths series. This was a fab installment that put Rachel – a girl we thought we knew up until now – and Kai, a childhood friend, together. It was an incredible friends to lovers story and is not one you’ll want to miss. 4.5 out of 5

One Hot Scot by Suzanne Enoch is a novella in the Scandalous Highlanders series. This story is about a woman who is kidnapped and manages to escape. She ends up with, you guessed it, one hot Scot and he helps her with her kidnapper. The story was adorable as well as oh so sexy and I really enjoyed it. 4 out of 5

Dreams of Wolf by Miranda Stowe is a story about a woman who is a nanny. She saves her charges (or she thinks she saves them) from a large wolf one day. The wolf ends up following the woman and crawling in to bed with her. She thinks she’s having nightly dreams about this wonderful werewolf man but it’s all real. Needless to say she’s a bit freaked out when she finds out it’s real as well as the fact that he’s really a shapeshifter. The story was cute and definitely hot. The first part of the story told about his mother and included a sex scene and I didn’t care for that part at all. I’m sure it was supposed to be titillating but I didn’t find it to be at all. 3 out of 5

Next up was Score by Gina Watson. This novella involves Chloe who wakes up in Vegas next to Caleb St. Martin. He has been the bane of her existence most of her life as they grew up neighbors and he seemed to bully her. He doesn’t see it that way but understands how she might. Now that he’s been with her he’s not willing to give her up but Chloe has quite a bit of emotional baggage to wade through before she can accept him. This was a cute story. The sex scenes were hot but Chloe annoyed the heck out of me. She was always storming off somewhere and it got old. Caleb may not have been the perfect man but I liked him a heck of a lot more than I liked Chloe. There were some parts of the story that were very touching as it had to do with a friend and his battle with ALS and I really enjoyed those portions of the book. 3 out of 5

Last for the week was The Wedding Secret by Jeannie Moon. This story is about a couple who ends up having sex at the man’s sister’s wedding. It turns into a secret baby story and has many ups and downs. I’ll post my review for this one this week. 3 out of 5

Review: The Temporary Wife by Jeannie Moon

Posted May 22, 2013 by Tracy in Reviews | 0 Comments

Kindergarten teacher Megan Rossi is devoted to being a mother to her best friend’s five-year-old daughter, Molly. When the child was orphaned, Meg became the little girl’s legally named guardian—over the objections of Molly’s wealthy grandparents, the Campbells. Now the Campbells are petitioning for custody, and Meg is faced with a long and expensive legal battle. The last thing she expects is for her former high school boyfriend—and the Campbells’ estranged son—to offer a solution: marriage.

Billionaire software developer Jason Campbell knows his parents don’t have Molly’s best interests at heart—it’s all about control for them. There is one way he can ensure that his sister’s last wishes are honored. He will offer Meg the protection of his name and lawyers until the custody arrangement has been finalized , then he’ll secure his niece’s future with a very generous divorce settlement. Jason’s considered all the scenarios, except one—that the sparks that once flew between he and Meg might reignite a burning passion. And that his confirmed bachelor heart might just melt away from the heat…

Meg Rossi is trying to deal with the death of her best friend and the guardianship of her friends little girl, Molly, when she’s hit with a 1-2 punch. Molly’s grandparents want the child to raise and they’ll stop at nothing to get her. Meg doesn’t have the money to fight the Campbells as they have millions to spend and she’s a kindergarten teacher. Though she does well for herself she’s not a millionaire. She doesn’t want to lose Molly and knows that Molly’s mother, Grace, wanted Meg to raise the girl because she hated the way she was raised. How can she keep Molly from that life? She’s unexpectedly approached by Jason Campbell who proposes marriage. She all but laughs in his face. You see Jason and Meg have a history and Jason wasn’t reliable once, how can he be again?

Jason is not happy that his parents, who he considers complete vipers, want to take Molly away from Megan. He knows that his sister Grace and her husband didn’t want Molly raised by his parents and the only way he can think of to save Meg and Molly and keep Molly from his parents is to marry Meg. He proposed to Meg that it just be for a year until the ‘rents back off. He proposes a pre-nup agreement and that they adopt Molly as their own and then even when they split Molly would be safe. Meg is so desperate that she agrees even though she’s not sure she can trust Jason. She desperately wants to but when she was 16 and he 18 his parents verbally attacked Meg and Jason didn’t say a word to defend her. She was hurt and betrayed but that didn’t stop her from loving the jerk for the past 14 years.

Jason is a brainiac who lives, eats and breathes his company. He knows that he’s not what’s good for either Meg but marrying her and then letting her go will save 2 people he cares about. He certainly doesn’t plan on falling in love with her once again but obviously his heart had different plans.

This was a book with a trope that isn’t uncommon. That being said I think that the author did a good job of showing us the past hurts that each of the characters had had. She also gave us some interesting secondary characters that were well worth reading about. I did think that there were some emotional scenes that weren’t explored fully – ones that could have added more depth to the story – and that was a bit disappointing. There were, however, some that were done very well and that made up for the lack in the others, at least for me.

The book showed two characters that grew from their love and the benefit of being close together. I loved seeing Jason becoming a better man as you could tell he had it in him.

Overall it was a good book and a fun read.

What I Read Last Week

Posted May 20, 2013 by Tracy in Features | 4 Comments

Hey there!

Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Mine was…interesting. Let me explain.  My youngest joined a tumbling class at a dance studio about 6 months ago.  The studio is right next to her Taekwondo studio so it’s convenient.  Anyway, never in a million years would I have imagined a tumbling class going to a dance competition but yet, there I was on Saturday doing dance make-up (OMG you should have seen me, I had no effin clue what I was doing!) and getting her to the comp in Pasadena.  They did really well and got 1st platinum in their category but what a day!  I was exhausted by the time we got home and just the thought of doing another one this next Saturday (which we have to do!) is making me shudder.  lol  Of course my little one loved it. 🙂  Here she is when we first got to the competition and then with one of her best friends with the trophy.  There are about 15 girls in the group and I wish I could have taken pictures and video but they didn’t allow it and I was being good so I conformed. 🙂  Hopefully I’ll be able to this next weekend.

I have no idea why this pic looks so distorted.  It doesn’t look that way in my photo editor so IDK.  Whatever. lol

Yesterday was just a cleaning and recovery day with a nasty ass migraine.  I’ve still got it and am home today.  Staring at this screen isn’t doing me any favors but I needed to get this done.  I also completely skimped on the post last week so I can’t do that again! lol

On to what I read:

I started off the week with Tessa Dare’s Any Duchess Will Do.  I absolutely loved this book.  It had a man agreeing to his mother’s scheme to turn anyone he picks from Spindle Cove into a duchess – his duchess.  He doesn’t want to get married so picks the serving girl, Pauline, from the Bull and Blossom. She only agrees to go with him for a week and only cuz he’s paying her $1,000.00 pounds to screw up and thwart his mother’s plans.  They didn’t plan on falling in love.  The book was lovely and I’m truly loving this series.  I’ll post my review for this one this week. 4.75 out of 5

My next read was a very short book called Claiming Lauren by Emily Ryan-Davis.  The book showed us a wife of 5 years who lived in the states while her hubby lived in Europe.  The marriage was in name only.  She had been having an internet relationship with a guy for 2 years and she was finally going to go meet him and get her BDSM on for the first time.  The hubby shows up after she gets home and suddenly wants a relationship.  There was more to the relationship with the hubby that I can’t say without spoilers but the book was odd.  We never got any back story as to why the marriage was in name only – why the hubby had virtually ignored his wife for 5 years – how they came to be married in the first place.  The sex was well written but the lack of any depth to the story really turned me off of this one. 2 out of 5

Next up was The Temporary Wife by Jeannie Moon.  The story is about a couple who dies and leaves their daughter to the wife’s best friend to keep her away from the wife’s parents who weren’t parents at all and are mean and vindictive.  The parent’s try to get their granddaughter away from the best friend but their son steps in to help the best friend out – just temporarily.  The story was very cute and I enjoyed the book.  I’ll post my review for this one this week as well. 3.5 out of 5

It Had To Be You by Jill Shalvis is the next book in the Lucky Harbor series and it was really good.  The story is about a girl who’s down and out and is helped by a vacationing copy who is in Lucky Harbor for some quiet time.  He doesn’t exactly get it. I’ll post my review for this story next week.  4 out of 5

Next up was Remembering Love by Nadine Christian which is a story about a woman who finds out that her parents lived on a remote island and that her father killed her mother and then himself when she was 5.  The girl goes back to try and find answers and meets up with her childhood friend.  I really liked a lot about this story but there were some issues I had with it as well. 3.5 out of 5 (read for Book Binge)

Masks by Evangaline Anderson is the story about a girl who’s twin asks her to take her place with a client cuz she hurt her ankle.  Chloe had no idea that her twin is a dominatrix and fails miserably at the job.  The “client” ends up taking over and Chloe has the best night of her life – until she finds out some truths about the client and her sister.  This was a very cute story and pretty hot as well.  Anderson always is good at the erotic, that’s for sure.  3 out of 5

Last for the week was Knight Errant by KD Sarge.  This is a sci-fi/space opera about a 15/16 year old brother of a spaceship captain.  He is all about pleasing his sister but this means hiding the fact that he’s gay as well as other things.  She wants him to go to college – he doesn’t want to.  She wants him to be the captain of his own ship – he doesn’t want to.  He tells her none of this…until he meets Rafe Ballard who is a joy-boy, and falls in love with him.  Taro has to come clean about a lot of things, but not before he and Rafe get into a boat load of trouble.  I’ve had this one for quite a while and for some reason never read it.  It was really good and I definitely recommend it. 4.5 out of 5
