Since being disowned by her strict father, Cass Stone has spent her adulthood trying to prove him wrong. Her drive has led to more success than her family ever thought she'd achieve, and life is looking great. Not even an incredible and mysterious one night stand that leaves her a single mom can trip her up...until the father of her baby stumbles back into her life.

Logan Alexander hasn't forgotten the night he spent with Cass two years ago, but he never expects to end up undercover as her assistant. His job saves lives—like it should have saved his brother—and he can't afford complications. It's difficult enough to maintain his cover as a carefree wanderer when he realizes his attraction to Cass hasn't faded...and then he meets Cass's daughter.

Tracy’s review of Her Secret, His Surprise by Paula Altenburg

Cass is at a defense conference in Ottowa when she decides to let down her hair. She picks up Logan who is the bartender that night and they have a wonderful, unforgettable night together. When Cass finds out she’s pregnant she calls the hotel where Logan was working but they say that a man named Logan had never worked there.

Logan is a man who works for the Canadian Security Intelligence Agency. He had been posing as a bartender so when Cass called he was long off the case. He is called in to work at Kramer to figure out who is selling secrets and starts working as an administrative assistant to none other than Cass.

Cass is not thrilled to see Logan. She once wanted him to know about his child but now that Olivia was born she wanted her all to herself. When she finds out that Logan is also her next door neighbors grandson and is staying with his grandmother she’s even more concerned. When Logan figures out that Olivia is his he’s not going to be thrilled.

Logan is thrilled when he sees Olivia because he knows immediately that she is his daughter. He wants to be with her all the time but because of a possible conflict of interest with the case he’s working on he can’t tell Cass that info. He acts like Olivia’s not his but uses every excuse to be around her. Cass believes that Logan is a man with no ambition as he can’t tell her the truth but once the case is over then all shields will come down.

I think the part I liked most about this book were the sparks that flew from Logan to Cass whenever they were together. Whether they were arguing, kissing or just being with their child the attraction was there and ever present. The author did a great job of showing us both the ups and downs of that attraction throughout the book.

Cass was, I’ll admit, a bit on the staunch side when it came to Logan but I understood she was protecting her heart and her daughter. She really knew nothing about Logan even though she had slept with him and getting to know him was difficult as it always seemed he was hiding something. I was happy to see her relax towards the end of the book and give Logan a chance.

Logan was a great guy, imho. Sure, he didn’t plan on being a father but he took it in stride and loved every minute he was with Olivia. I loved seeing them together.

Overall the book was charming and I enjoyed it.
