Main Character: Hannah
Love Interest: Noah (highlight if you want to know)
Series: None
Author: Website|Facebook|Twitter|Goodreads

On the last day of her junior year, Hannah’s boyfriend Ryan dumped her. Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah’s side…until it’s time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer. Also left behind is Ava’s boyfriend, Noah, who’s such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah’s good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction–and one night, into a passionate kiss. The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Ryan, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think…

Though I have a few Lauren Barnholdt titles sitting on my bookshelf, this book was actually the second LB book that I’ve read. I enjoyed it. It surprised me that I enjoyed this book because I’m not a fan of infidelity but man I enjoyed getting to know Noah in this book. If given the chance, I probably would have cheated with him too. He was that great. =P

This book starts off with the main character finding her boyfriend cheating on her at the last party of the school year. Heartbroken and depressed, she goes home with her best friend Ava and have a girly night to talk trash about boys and make Hannah feel better. Ava isn’t the best of friends even though she’s Hannah’s best friend but she’s not a bad person either. She’s kind of selfish but Hannah loves her and that’s all that matters. Only the very next day, Ava tells Hannah that she’s going to Maine for the summer and won’t be around to help Hannah get over Sebastian and she won’t be around for a lazy summer that she promised Hannah they’d have which bums Hannah out because right now, she needs her best friend. Well, the best friend goes away and leaves her boyfriend to stay behind and help bring Hannah out of her shell and help her move on from that loser Sebastian.

What do you think is going to happen when you throw a boy and a girl together for an entire summer? Feelings happen, duh.

What I want to know is what is up with the whole crush on your best friend’s boyfriend thing they’ve got going in YA right now? It’s getting as popular as the whole dead people’s thing in YA. I guess I shouldn’t complain much because I’m reading these books like they’re going out of style but it is a curious topic.

Anyway, it was very easy for me to get into this book. There were times when I wanted to smack Hannah upside her head because of her assumptions and overall moodiness but I’m easy because Noah made everything better for me. I adored him, I loved the way he fought his feelings (which were so obvious) for Hannah and like in real life, I got good and pissed at him when they went to visit Ava at camp but the road trip was too adorable for words. The relationship that blossomed between Noah and Hannah was refreshing and cute and I enjoyed being a part of it. I enjoyed this book so much that I immediately picked up another book by Lauren Barnholdt and decided to read that as well.

This book was entertaining and it was cute and I’m glad I read it. If you’re a fan of Barnholdt’s other books then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one as well.

For all my Moms out there, I’d give this book a rating of:

This book is more suitable for older teens (13 and up) due to language and some sexy scenes.

..and that’s your scoop!

  1. “If given the chance, I probably would have cheated with him too.”

Haha, I’m sitting here laughing my head off! I agree with that, though, and the rest of your review. I really liked how his relationship with Hannah played out and it made me curious about Barnholdt’s works — I’m reading “Two-Way Street” right now and really enjoying it. I can’t wait to read the rest of her books! 😀

  2. Mmm… lovely review, you made me want to read it. 😛 however I don’t have a good experience with Barnholdt’s books so I don’t think I would be very objective 🙁

Which sucks because it sounds like a really good story.

  3. This is the first time I hear of the whole falling for your bff’s boyfriend, so I thought it was a unique little idea. It sounds like fun beach read, so I want to read it. Great review 🙂

@Brahmin: This book was good, I’m so glad that I read it.

@Stephanie: What? I totally would have cheated with Noah. I loved him that much. =)

@Alex: Hmm, I think you’ll enjoy this one but just in case, borrow it from the library or Book Mooch it or something so in case you don’t, you won’t have wasted money on it. =)

@Cindy: Welcome! There are quite a few stories with this premise that I enjoyed, you might enjoy them too. There’s Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti, The Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott and crap, that’s all I can remember right now. Thanks for your kind words on my review.
