Rowena’s review of Where Dreams Begin by Lisa Kleypas.

Hero: Zach Bronson
Heroine: Lady Holland Taylor
Grade: 4.75 out of 5

Zachary Bronson has built an empire of wealth and power—now he needed a wife to help secure his position in society…and warm his bed in private. But not just any woman will do for a man whom all of London knows is not a gentleman. Then he unexpectedly swept Lady Holly Taylor into his arms for an unasked for—but very alluring—kiss, and suddenly he knew he had found a woman whose fierce passions matched his own.

Lady Holly Taylor was beautiful, generous, and, as a widow, destined to spend her life playing by society’s rules, even when they went against her bolder instincts. But Zachary’s kiss had aroused her, and though the shocking offer he made didn’t include marriage, she was compelled to risk everything and follow him to the place where dreams begin.

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read this book and when I picked it up for this month’s author spotlight re read, I wasn’t expecting the story that I got. I remember reading it before and loving it but truth be told, I couldn’t remember much of the storyline or the characters. I only knew that the hero and the heroine were Zack and Holly. Goodness was this book a good one. I’m not sure if I loved it more this time around or not but I do know that I loved this book to pieces. It was such a romantic story that flowed so freaking well that I put it on my list of books to reread every year.

This book is about Lady Holland Taylor who is a widow and Mr. Zachary Bronson who is a dream boat. Lady Holland is hired by Zack to teach him, his mother and his sister some manners and goodness the sparks fly when Lady Holly accepts. Oh man, this book was one of those tearjerkers and I completely ate the story up. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters (all of them to be honest) and I get really happy when authors don’t make the spouses of the past, monsters and beasts. Characters that we can’t possibly like. I loved that part of the conflict for Holly was her feelings for Zack and the guilt she was having because of her feelings for her dead husband. She’s human, she grieved and she moved on. I thought Zack and Holly together were a great couple and I enjoyed seeing them grow closer.

My favorite part of the book still remains the parting scene between Little Rose and Zack. Loved. It. I also loved Rose’s little button string. She’s adorable! This is one of those feel good historicals that will definitely keep you warm this winter. It’s got everything you want in a romance, a great cast, a wonderful storyline and steamy scenes that will keep you coming back for more. =)

If you haven’t read this book, fix that right now. This book is great!

This book is available from Avon. You can buy it here or here in e-format.

  1. This is another one of my top favourites of hers. With her historicals, my fave is DOY, then Suddenly You – then about 3 or 4 that are all tied – and this one of the tied books.
I love the fact that again, the hero isn’t titled but more of a regular kinda guy.

    Heather,

If you can’t get it from your SIL, email me. I’ll send you my copy, that’s how much I love this book!

    KristieJ,

I love that too. To be a “commoner” and still have so many men of the ton in his pocket? Love it.

    Anon,

Definitely pick this book up to read, you won’t regret it!
