On My Wish List: January 2011.

Posted January 10, 2011 by Rowena in Discussions | 5 Comments

One of my goals for the year 2011 is to have a monthly wish list posted on Book Binge and this is going to be the first one of the year. There are a few books that are coming out this month that I’m totally lusting after and here’s a list of what they are.

1. Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

R.S.V.P. to the most riotous wedding of the year . . .

Lucy Jorik is the daughter of a former president of the United States.

Meg Koranda is the offspring of legends.

One of them is about to marry Mr. Irresistible—Ted Beaudine—the favorite son of Wynette, Texas. The other is not happy about it and is determined to save her friend from a mess of heartache.

But even though Meg knows that breaking up her best friend’s wedding is the right thing to do, no one else seems to agree. Faster than Lucy can say “I don’t,” Meg becomes the most hated woman in town—a town she’s stuck in with a dead car, an empty wallet, and a very angry bridegroom. Broke, stranded, and without her famous parents at her back, Meg is sure she can survive on her own wits. What’s the worst that can happen? Lose her heart to the one and only Mr. Irresistible? Not likely. Not likely at all.

Alright so yes, I’ve already read this book but still, it should be on everyone’s wish list because this is Teddy freaking Beaudine’s book and it’s a great contemporary romance! SEP always delivers, that’s for sure.

2. Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning.

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh — a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.

Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world… or destroy it.

I’ve read the first book in this series and while I enjoyed it, I haven’t picked up any of the other books but I want to. I’m seeing a lot of people reading and loving this series and I’m curious to see what I’m missing out on but these books come out in hard cover. I’m cheap, I can only do paperbacks so that’s why this book is on my wish list.

3. Scandal of the Year by Laura Lee Guhrke.

One tryst was all she wanted . . . From their very first meeting, Julia knew that Aidan Carr, the oh-so-proper Duke of Trathen, had a bit of the devil in him, a devil who …

Alright, so I’ve already read this book too but still…this book should be on everyone’s wish list if they’ve read the first book in this series. I really enjoyed the first book (first love stories always get me) and this one adds more goodness to an already great series so put this book on your wishlist, you won’t want to miss out on this book.

4. Unveiled by Courtney Milan.

Ash Turner has waited a lifetime to seek revenge on the man who ruined his family—and now the time for justice has arrived. At Parford Manor, he intends to take his place as the rightful heir to the dukedom and settle an old score with the current duke once and for all. But instead he finds himself drawn to a tempting beauty who has the power to undo all his dreams of vengeance….

Lady Margaret knows she should despise the man who’s stolen her fortune and her father’s legacy—the man she’s been ordered to spy on in the guise of a nurse. Yet the more she learns about the new duke, the less she can resist his smoldering appeal. Soon Margaret and Ash find themselves torn between old loyalties—and the tantalizing promise of passion….

This book looks like it’d be a good read and I’ve heard such good things about Courtney Milan so I’m putting this on my wish list because I want to read it dangit!

There are plenty more but I’d be here for days trying to get this post situated so I’m going to end this post here.

Are there any books that come out this month that you’re itching to own? Share your wish list with us!

On My Wish List: December 2010.

Posted December 3, 2010 by Rowena in Promotions | 4 Comments

It’s a new month of new releases and there are so many out there that I am so greedy for but can’t afford to buy so instead of buying them, they’re going on my Wish List and here is my wish list for December!

1. The Lady Most Likely by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway.

Three of the brightest stars of historical romance invite you to a party at the country home of the Honorable Marquess of Finchley

Hugh Dunne, the Earl of Briarly, needs a wife, so his sister hands him a list of delectable damsels and promises to invite them— and a few other gentlemen—to her country house for what is sure to be the event of the season.
Hugh will have time to woo whichever lady he most desires . . . Unless someone else snatches her first.
The invitation list includes:
  • The horse-mad but irresistibly handsome Earl of Briarly
  • The always outspoken Miss Katherine Peyton
  • The dashing war hero Captain Neill Oakes
  • The impossibly beautiful (and painfully shy) Miss Gwendolyn Passmore
  • The terribly eligible new Earl of Charters
  • The widowed Lady Georgina Sorrell (who has no plans to marry, ever)
And your hostess, Lady Carolyn Finchley, an irrepressible matchmaker who plans to find the lady most likely . . . to capture her brother’s untamed heart.

I think of all of the books that are coming out this month, this book is the book that I’m most looking forward to reading because Julia Quinn is a part of this writing adventure and I’m a huge fan of JQ. The blurb sounds promising as well so count me in!

2. Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros.

Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah’s stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she’s intrigued. What’s all the fuss?
Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, “MarkBaynard”—a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical—Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living?
Or is he?
Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss—a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation.

This book is one that I want to read mostly because the other books that I’ve read that were told in strictly emails, tweets and what not, I have thoroughly enjoyed and I’m hoping that this one will be another winner. I have faith in Medeiros since I have read and enjoyed some of her other books. I can’t wait for this one!

3. Sin and Surrender by Julia Latham.

Raised by the secretive League of the Blade, Sir Paul Hilliard fled England to escape from their shadow.

And now his life depends on the breathtaking Bladeswoman he once trained and now desires.
Painful memories once drove Paul Hilliard away. But when the elite secret fraternity of knights calls him home to help thwart a devilish plot against the king, Paul cannot refuse. And his bodyguard in this deadly undertaking is Juliana Gresham—a stunningly beautiful warrior who honed her skills under his expert guidance.
When Juliana first received her training, she was a young, shy, and innocent orphan; now she has blossomed magnificently into womanhood, tempting the honorable knight. Surrendering to his passion could gravely endanger their mission. But Paul’s great need for her will not be silenced—especially when the plot demands that the exquisite Juliana play a shocking new role in their dangerous intrigue . . . as Paul’s mistress.

This is one of those series that I want to read but I keep forgetting about, I’m putting this book on my wish list because it sounds like a good book. That’s enough for me to want it.

4. Wedding of the Season by Laura Lee Guhrke.

Abandoned at the altar . . .

Lady Beatrix Danbury had always known she would marry William Mallory. She’d loved him forever and she’d never doubted he loved her, too. But when she made him choose between their life together or his lifelong dream, Will chose the latter . . . and left two weeks before their wedding.
Return of the duke . . .

Will has no illusions that Beatrix would welcome him back with open arms, but six years did not dim his love or desire for her. The only problem is, she’s about to marry someone else. Someone safe and predictable . . . the complete opposite of Will. But can he stop the wedding of the season and win Beatrix back, or is it just too late?

Even though I already read and adored this book, I want to own my own copy because I thought it was such a good read. I’m looking forward to more from this author and this series so it’s going on my list!

5. How to Bake a Perfect Life by Barbara O’Neal.

Professional baker Ramona Gallagher is a master of an art that has sustained her through the most turbulent times, including a baby at fifteen and an endless family feud. But now Ramona’s bakery threatens to crumble around her. Literally. She’s one water-heater disaster away from losing her grandmother’s rambling Victorian and everything she’s worked so hard to build.

When Ramona’s soldier son-in-law is wounded in Afghanistan, her daughter, Sophia, races overseas to be at his side, leaving Ramona as the only suitable guardian for Sophia’s thirteen-year-old stepdaughter, Katie. Heartbroken, Katie feels that she’s being dumped again—this time on the doorstep of a woman out of practice with mothering.
Ramona relies upon a special set of tools—patience, persistence, and the reliability of a good recipe—when rebellious Katie arrives. And as she relives her own history of difficult choices, Ramona shares her love of baking with the troubled girl. Slowly, Katie begins to find self-acceptance and a place to call home. And when a man from her past returns to offer a second chance at love, Ramona discovers that even the best recipe tastes better when you add time, care, and a few secret ingredients of your own.

This book sounds good and it’s got a bakery in it so of course I want to read it. I’m really liking the blurb of this one and though it doesn’t sound much like a romance, I’m still mighty intrigued and want to read it. So on the list it goes.

And there you have it, my December 2010 wish list. What are you looking forward to reading this month? Any books that I should be lusting after that I missed? Let me know.
