by Katie Porter

Capt. Eric “Kisser” Donaghue has not been the nicest of our fighting pilots in “Vegas Top Guns,” our debut Katie Porter series. In Bare Knuckle, we had the challenge of redeeming a guy who hit on Jon’s girlfriend Heather in Inside Bet—the two men nearly came to blows—and who generally drank, chased women, and revealed a keen appreciation for hardcore boxing. Raised in a bad part of Detroit, making it into the Air Force, and more impressively as a piloting instructor, is the most important thing he’s ever done.

That’s where we started. A guy has to be pretty damn determined to make it from Detroit to the best of the best at Nellis Air Force base outside of Las Vegas. Vices aside, he had to have something worthwhile inside him to make all the sacrifices such a journey would demand.

Oh, and then at the end of book four in the series, Hard Way, he survives a plane crash. Scarred, tortured hero!

To say the least, the crash changed his perspective on life. He didn’t become all hearts and flowers. Just the opposite to start. He has a fatalistic streak a mile wide, but it redoubled his devotion to his brother, who’s undergoing intensive drug rehabilitation. He also develops a grudging respect for Capt. Leah “Princess” Girardi, the heroine of book three, Hold ’Em, when she’s promoted to squadron leader.

Still…surviving and becoming less of a misogynist ass doesn’t make for a happy ending. We needed to bring him all the way to the side of great romance heroes by giving him a solid kick in the pants. That kick comes in the form of fabulous stilettoes at the end of showgirl Trish Monroe’s long, gorgeous legs. If a man can’t become a hero for the woman destined to be the love of his life, he doesn’t belong in a romance novel.

Lucky for Kisser, he becomes just the hero Trish needs—and the perfect hero to top off the last of our “Vegas Top Guns” series. Enjoy!

We’d like to give away a copy of BARE KNUCKLE in any digital format. Just answer the question: What is the eternal appeal of the redeemed hero?

About the book:

After a near-fatal plane crash, fighter pilot Captain Eric “Kisser” Donaghue is a changed man. By day he labors to regain

his confidence in the cockpit. By night he moonlights as an off-Strip boxer, fighting for prize money to pay for his younger brother’s third stint in rehab.

In the ring, no one cares he once had a face that launched a thousand one-night stands—and neither does Eric. He’s only there to win. Yet he can’t take his eyes off the new ring girl, a glitz-meets-pageant-queen vision of blonde perfection.

Down on her luck but not quite out, Vegas showgirl Trish Monroe lives for the spotlight. The scarred, steely-eyed loner who stares at her from his corner of the ring gives Trish an extra reason to strut her stuff.

Curiosity and the temptation of a no-strings good time bring them together. The discovery of their secret fetishes—she likes to show off, he likes to watch—turns mere sexual chemistry into a fiery exploration of matched passions. They’re a natural fit. Trust in love, however, is harder to earn than trust in bed, especially when this beauty and beast hide even from themselves.

Warning: This book contains a Sin City-style Beauty and the Beast love story, lots of naughty pics and vids, adrenaline-pumped base jumping, and a set of very important note cards. Oh, and as always, an incredibly hot fighter pilot.

Guest Author (+ a Giveaway): Katie Porter – Hold Em’

Posted October 2, 2012 by Holly in Giveaways, Promotions | 18 Comments

Today we’re welcoming Katie Porter (the writing duo of Carrie Lofty and Lorelie Brown) back to celebrate their latest release, Hold Em’.

Hot as Hell Bikes
By Katie Porter

Both Mike and Leah from Hold ’Em ride motorcycles. I’ve mentioned this fact at a couple stops on the Katie Porter book blog tour (which seems never ending, which is AWESOME. I love that we’re being…received, I guess at so many places) but I haven’t spent any time really describing the bikes.

The Book Binge seemed like the appropriate place to do that, since (I believe) Holly’s husband is a motorcycle cop! (I really, really hope that’s true or this whole post will be embarrassing. Oops.) [H: Yep – carry on!)

I’m not sure how many people realize, but the vehicles of the Vegas Top Guns series are practically an extra set of characters. Ryan from Double Down is an All-American guy next door and drives a Ford F150. Jon of Inside Bet is a playboy with a titanium-plated ego who drives an Aston Martin DBS convertible.

So when it was time for our favorite fly girl to step up to the plate, we had to make sure she had a vehicle that could hang with the big guys—because Leah wouldn’t have it any other way. For such an adrenaline junky, a motorcycle seemed like the way to go. She rides a Ducati street bike, the cream of the speedy crop. Then we custom painted it bright pink, because Leah’s still quite aware of the fact that she’s a girl. It’s still got 140 horsepower, enough to leave almost anyone in the dust.

Except Captain Michael Templeton, her hero, needed a bike that was fully badass in its own way, so he’s got a BMW S1000RR. That bad boy gets 195 horsepower.

But I’ll tell you a little secret: the bikes they have in the final copy of the book are now what we put in the rough draft. We had them on two exceedingly respectable bikes, but ones that were lacking that extra splash of sexy. (Mike had a Harley and Leah had a Suzuki.) We got that extra oomph from an absolutely wonderful copy editor who happens to ride and who made a few suggestions. Now Mike and Leah ride so much awesome that it’s pouring out of their ears—and they’re racing across the pages.

Well, honestly Mike and Leah race in more ways that one, not all of them involving engines. And it’s a hell of a ride!

Guest Author (+ a Giveaway): Katie Porter – Captain Jon Carlisle

Posted September 11, 2012 by Holly in Giveaways, Promotions | 17 Comments

You know what happens when authors Carrie Lofty and Lorelie Brown combine forces? AWESOMESAUCE in the form of Katie Porter. The writing duo has a new release, Inside Bet, Book 2 in the Vegas Top Guns series and they’re here to talk about it (among other things).

What Captain Jon Carlisle Spends Money On….
By Katie Porter

So, I’ve written a lot of blog posts lately. Really. A lot. That’s what happens when you’ve got three books coming out within three months and you love them like hotcakes and want to support them. But it also means I’m getting a wee bit burned out on thinking of topics.

When I’m in a tight spot, I often google. “I need a blog topic!!!” (Complete with exclamation points. The amazing Sasha Knight, Samhain editor, won’t let many get through to print, so I use them liberally elsewhere.) What I found was “What you spend money on.” Me? Really? Someone might want to know where I spend my money? Naaahhhh.

But Jon from Inside Bet tosses money around like the privileged few do. He’s got a sexy as hell car, of course, an Aston Martin DBS. (This is where I’d normally provide a picture, but I don’t want to get my lovely hosts sued for copyright infringement. So go google it. Sexiest sports car ever.)

And when he meets accounting executive Heather Morris and successfully seduces her into a night in Las Vegas, Jon goes all the way. There’s no low-rent Caesars’ Palace for them (Caesar’s Palace shows up in Hold ‘Em and is put to very good use.) Jon takes Heather to The Palazzo, a luxury resort for the most discriminating in Vegas. And naturally, he gets the suite with one and a half bath and a separate bedroom. (Jon likes a good bedroom.) There was research involved, naturally and did you know that the suite picked for Jon was bigger than some houses? Bigger than my house in particular. Kind of mind blowing.

I didn’t bother looking up the price of the room rental. Because Jon wouldn’t have asked first. Not only would he have no reason to worry about it (loaded heroes ftw!) but to him that would be just tacky for the first night he was with a woman as put together as Heather. He likes unraveling women and pushing them past their boundaries. Who can do that when they’re mincing around about spending too much?

His sheets have name brands. For really. Garnier Thiebaut. Only the finest for Captain Jon Carlisle. (And that includes Heather.)
But I swear you won’t hate him. I promise! Jon isn’t afraid of being normal, either. He wears a T-shirt and jeans with the best of them (though you probably shouldn’t ask how much his jeans cost. Just look at how good his ass looks in them) and when he goes out with Heather for a burger and shake, it’s all good. Well. It’s better than good. The scene that comes after burgers has been pointed out as one of the hottest scenes in the whole book. I’d certainly agree too.
