THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB?
When it came to protecting the innocent, Bobby Taylor was your man. But when his best friend, Wes, asked him to keep an eye on his little sister, Bobby desperately wanted to pass. Because to him, gorgeous redhead Colleen Skelly didn’t look like anyone’s kid sister. He doubted she was innocent. And he wanted to keep more than just his eye on her…
After years of trying to get magnificent Navy SEAL Bobby Taylor to herself–and away from the prying eyes of her meddling brother–Colleen had finally succeeded. Bobby was hers, if only for a few days. But now she had her work cut out for her. She had to prove that she was a grown woman–and that he was all she would ever need in a man…
I’ve been waiting on reading this story because I was almost finished with this series. I didn’t want this series to end, I didn’t want this story to end because it was bringing me closer and closer to Wes’ story which will end my Tall, Dark and Dangerous adventure.
On January 1, 2009 at 12:09am I finally picked up this book and read it all in one sitting. It’s a pretty short story but that didn’t effect my enjoyment of the story at all. Suz Brockmann does a phenomenal job of packing all the goodness of a longer novel into a compact novel and I seriously loved every minute of getting to know Bobby and Colleen. I remember reading little back stories on both Bobby and Wes in Jake, Mitch and Lucky’s books and so those little tid bits of information that Suz peppered through out those books got me ready for their stories.
Throughout this series, Bobby and Wes were the twins. They looked nothing alike and yet they were so in sync with each other that words weren’t necessary for these two to get the work done. They were always the single guys, the ones that were out partying all the time and trying to get the others to party with them. Well, we finally get their settle down stories and I thought Bobby’s story was a cute one.
It’s the whole best friend’s sister/forbidden love story line and I had to admire Colleen’s persistence in going for what she wanted. She finally had the chance to seduce Bobby Taylor and she was going to do it…whether he liked it or not. She wasn’t fooled by his whole, “I gotta do the right thing” attitude. She knew that he wanted her just as much as she wanted him and there was no Wes there to play chaperone and she’d be damned if she was going to let him ruin a good thing.
I love the way that Suz writes her couples. There are the couples that immediately click and then there are the ones that need a little shove in the right direction. I loved how Jake told Bobby he didn’t have a chance at staying away from Colleen. He was a goner and when he finally realized it, the book got better and better with each page I turned.
What I liked most about this story was the way it was told. It slowly unfurled, kind of like Bobby’s personality. It wasn’t this fast paced story that rushed by and had my head spinning, it was merely told. You could feel Bobby’s frustration as he tried to do what was right instead of what he wanted to do. You could feel Colleen’s anticipation for her next meeting with Bobby. Their story was told bit by bit, piece by piece and it all comes to a head when Wes finds about them and goes ballistic.
I loved that Bobby was honest with Colleen and when that didn’t work and he tried his hand at flat out lying to her to keep her safe from his feelings for her, I loved how Colleen just bulldozed right over that and saw to what Bobby really felt. I loved that she trusted herself enough to go after what she wanted and to heck with the consequences. She knew the kind of life that Bobby led and yet because he had her heart, she took the bad with the good and she wasn’t going to let him or anyone else (Wes) scare her away from what she really wanted.
A shot with Bobby.
That fight scene with Bobby and Wes was my favorite scene in the whole book because it was at that moment when everyone, including Bobby realized the extent of his feelings for her. He was done hiding behind his feelings and when he beat Wes’ ass, I couldn’t have been more happy for the both of them because Wes needed to mind his own damn business and Bobby finally owned his feelings so would I recommend this book to you guys?
Heck yes! This book was a great addition to the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series and it put a smile on my face and kept it in place throughout this story. It was an enjoyable read and I just love this series so hot dang much, so yes, read it!
