Review: Taylor’s Temptation by Suzanne Brockmann.

Posted January 5, 2009 by Rowena in Reviews | 3 Comments

Hero: Bobby Taylor
Heroine: Colleen Skelly
Grade: 4.25 out of 5

THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB?

When it came to protecting the innocent, Bobby Taylor was your man. But when his best friend, Wes, asked him to keep an eye on his little sister, Bobby desperately wanted to pass. Because to him, gorgeous redhead Colleen Skelly didn’t look like anyone’s kid sister. He doubted she was innocent. And he wanted to keep more than just his eye on her…

After years of trying to get magnificent Navy SEAL Bobby Taylor to herself–and away from the prying eyes of her meddling brother–Colleen had finally succeeded. Bobby was hers, if only for a few days. But now she had her work cut out for her. She had to prove that she was a grown woman–and that he was all she would ever need in a man…

I’ve been waiting on reading this story because I was almost finished with this series. I didn’t want this series to end, I didn’t want this story to end because it was bringing me closer and closer to Wes’ story which will end my Tall, Dark and Dangerous adventure.

On January 1, 2009 at 12:09am I finally picked up this book and read it all in one sitting. It’s a pretty short story but that didn’t effect my enjoyment of the story at all. Suz Brockmann does a phenomenal job of packing all the goodness of a longer novel into a compact novel and I seriously loved every minute of getting to know Bobby and Colleen. I remember reading little back stories on both Bobby and Wes in Jake, Mitch and Lucky’s books and so those little tid bits of information that Suz peppered through out those books got me ready for their stories.

Throughout this series, Bobby and Wes were the twins. They looked nothing alike and yet they were so in sync with each other that words weren’t necessary for these two to get the work done. They were always the single guys, the ones that were out partying all the time and trying to get the others to party with them. Well, we finally get their settle down stories and I thought Bobby’s story was a cute one.

It’s the whole best friend’s sister/forbidden love story line and I had to admire Colleen’s persistence in going for what she wanted. She finally had the chance to seduce Bobby Taylor and she was going to do it…whether he liked it or not. She wasn’t fooled by his whole, “I gotta do the right thing” attitude. She knew that he wanted her just as much as she wanted him and there was no Wes there to play chaperone and she’d be damned if she was going to let him ruin a good thing.

I love the way that Suz writes her couples. There are the couples that immediately click and then there are the ones that need a little shove in the right direction. I loved how Jake told Bobby he didn’t have a chance at staying away from Colleen. He was a goner and when he finally realized it, the book got better and better with each page I turned.

What I liked most about this story was the way it was told. It slowly unfurled, kind of like Bobby’s personality. It wasn’t this fast paced story that rushed by and had my head spinning, it was merely told. You could feel Bobby’s frustration as he tried to do what was right instead of what he wanted to do. You could feel Colleen’s anticipation for her next meeting with Bobby. Their story was told bit by bit, piece by piece and it all comes to a head when Wes finds about them and goes ballistic.

I loved that Bobby was honest with Colleen and when that didn’t work and he tried his hand at flat out lying to her to keep her safe from his feelings for her, I loved how Colleen just bulldozed right over that and saw to what Bobby really felt. I loved that she trusted herself enough to go after what she wanted and to heck with the consequences. She knew the kind of life that Bobby led and yet because he had her heart, she took the bad with the good and she wasn’t going to let him or anyone else (Wes) scare her away from what she really wanted.

A shot with Bobby.

That fight scene with Bobby and Wes was my favorite scene in the whole book because it was at that moment when everyone, including Bobby realized the extent of his feelings for her. He was done hiding behind his feelings and when he beat Wes’ ass, I couldn’t have been more happy for the both of them because Wes needed to mind his own damn business and Bobby finally owned his feelings so would I recommend this book to you guys?

Heck yes! This book was a great addition to the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series and it put a smile on my face and kept it in place throughout this story. It was an enjoyable read and I just love this series so hot dang much, so yes, read it!

Review: Get Lucky by Suzanne Brockmann.

Posted July 23, 2008 by Rowena in Reviews | 7 Comments

Hero: Luke O’Donlon
Heroine: Sydney Jameson
Grade: 4.75 out of 5

LUCKY…IN LOVE?

An unlikely state of affairs. For Navy SEAL Lucky O’Donlon was the original love-’em-and-leave-’em guy. Used to women swooning at his feet. So how could it be that the adorably quick-witted and frustratingly attractive journalist Sydney Jameson seemingly had nothing to offer him…but one very cold shoulder?

Well, two could play at this game. But first things first — he and Sydney had a job to do. They had to get their man.

Then there would be time enough for him to get his woman….

Before I get into the review for this book, let me talk about this cover:

What in bleeping hell is that? I don’t know who the hell that is but that is NOT Luke “Lucky” O’Donlon. Atleast not the Lucky I’ve come to know in these books, I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw this cover because it’s just too funny to piece that man on that cover with the sheer perfection that is Lucky O’Donlon. But hey, whatever…I also had a good laugh that Suz thought exactly the same thing that I was thinking when I saw that cover. I can’t get over it but I should so I’m gonna try.

LOL.

Now on to my review….this book was great! So frickin’ great that I read it twice before moving on. Lucky was a dreamboat in the other books and in this book as well. He’s funny, smart, sexy as all get out and just fanfrickin’tastic! He’s a great leader and he’s a fair one as well. He was an outstanding hero and I totally fell for him.

It’s really hard to pick a favorite SEAL in this series because they’ve all got qualities that I love in a man. I love different things about every one of them and I enjoy the hell out of each and every book that I’ve read in this series so far. What I loved most about Lucky was that he saw what was beneath everything with Sydney. He didn’t fall for her looks, he fell for the woman that she was. They were friends and then they were more than friends and no matter what she was wearing or what she was doing, he cared.

The way he was with Sydney was a delight to read about. The love and care he showed and the way he worried over her made me all gooey inside because he was such the perfect romance hero.

Syd was a great heroine as well. She wasn’t dumb, she knew what the score was where Lucky was concerned. She knew that odds were, he’d never see her as girlfriend or wifey material but when things shifted, she didn’t shy away from her feelings. She embraced them and she risked her heart, knowing that he just might break it and hoping that he didn’t. Her faith in Lucky made this book enjoyable and I loved the storyline, even though I read the exact same storyline a few books before in Jake and Zoe’s book.

I enjoyed seeing the wifes of all of the SEALs get together and be there for each other. I love that Suz writes her happy endings and though things are still peachy between the heroes and heroines of the previous books, their lives don’t stop being unpredictable just because they got their happily ever after. Bad things still happen and nobody is invincible so with all the twists thrown at us made for a really enjoyable read.

This book had it all, a good romance, great characters and a taste of more to come. What more could you ask for in a romance novel? Not much, because as much as I loved Lucky and Sydney, I can’t wait to read more about Bobby but more than that, I really, really want to read more about Wes Skelly, bring on the Wes please!!

This book is great, you should definitely read it because Suz seriously rocks my socks with these stories and I’m sure she’ll rocks yours too.

Review: Identity: Unknown by Suzanne Brockmann.

Posted July 22, 2008 by Rowena in Reviews | 4 Comments

Hero: Lieutenant Mitchell Shaw
Heroine: Rebecca Keyes
Grade: 4.5 out of 5

What he remembered: His clothing size.

What he didn’t remember: Everything else.

Navy SEAL Mitchell Shaw woke one morning with no clue as to who he was. And the items hidden in his possession were no help–an address, along with a .22 caliber side arm. The address led him to the Lazy 8 Ranch–and its beautiful manager, Becca Keyes, who made him believe he might have a future, even if he wasn’t sure about his past.

The gun was another story altogether….

I really enjoyed this book which shocked the hell out of me since I detest amnesia stories and even though I just knew I wasn’t going to like this story, Suz Brockmann done made me love it anyway. I started this story last week but when I couldn’t get through the first couple of chapters because of the whole amnesia thing and I came back to this story yesterday just wanting to hurry up and finish it so that I can hurry up and get to Lucky’s book and I was pleasantly surprised that I really, really enjoyed this story.

Mitch loses his memory after a night he can’t remember. All he remembers is that he wakes up in a Church mission thingy and he’s got a gun in his boot along with a wad of bills. He’s got the Lazy 8 Ranch address on a piece of paper so he sets off to see if going to this Lazy 8 Ranch will jg his memory. He’s mistaken for a ranch hand and he takes the job because he doesn’t know what else to do so he mucks out stalls of horse maneuer and he keeps to himself and is very quiet.

He’s really attracted to his boss lady, Becca Keyes and when he saves the life of a young child who nearly drowns, Becca can’t help but take notice at how dangerously attractive “Casey ‘Mish’ Parker” is. She’s drawn to him and she can’t help herself when she asks him out, again and again until he finally relents and goes out with her.

I liked that the amnesia plot wasn’t a big drawn out thing, it was what it was and Mitch dealed with it, being as honest as he could and I loved that when the truth finally came out about who he wasn’t, Mitch didn’t run off without telling Becca everything. I loved that the amnesia thing was apart of the story but it wasn’t the whole story. There was still finding out who was after Mitch and what he was supposed to be doing and who he really was…all of those things made for some action packed scenes and I really appreciated all of it.

Mitch was a great hero but I already knew that he was going to be. I really liked him in Jake and Zoe’s story and so I was glad when I finally got to read his story. I liked Becca for him, I liked that she knew what she liked and she went after it. She was an adult about wanting Mitch and going after Mitch, knowing that things might not last. She was open to whatever Mitch could dish her way and she wasn’t a baby about it. Even after she found out that he wasn’t who he claimed, I’m glad that she listened to him and heard him out before she jumped to any rash decisions….what I really loved about her was how she stuck by him and helped him through everything. He needed her and she was there for him.

Great, great story.

I’m already reading Lucky’s story (I couldn’t wait) and am loving every minute of that story as well. These TDD books really are fantastic and I seriously cannot wait for more. This series isn’t finished forever, is it? Does anyone know?

I’m glad I read this story and I know that others will enjoy this addition to the TDD series. I definitely recommend this book for light summer reading by the pool or on the beach, it’s fun, suspenseful and short all rolled into one. It packs a helluva punch and is just what I needed this weekend.
