Delphi Brent, seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident as a teenager, is ready to spend the summer with old family friends when her parents make a distressing confession: the driver of the car that nearly killed her was one of the three sons of the Laughlin family she’s about to visit. They urge her to stay home and let the past be, but she resolves to go out West anyway to learn the truth about what happened the night she was struck and one of the Laughlin sons died.

However, in reconnecting with the Laughlins, who operate a sprawling ranch in Colorado, Delphi learns a lot not only about brothers and families, but also about the reasons people keep secrets, and what to do with the truth once it’s uncovered. She also falls in love with one of the Laughlin brothers, and that wasn’t part of the plan at all.

Tracy’s review of Reasons by Tracy Fabre

Delphi heads to Colorado to see old family friends that she hasn’t seen in 9 years. Her and her family used to spend tons of time at the sprawling ranch of the Laughlin family but after Delphi was almost killed in a hit and run accident they had never returned. Delphi finds out right before she leaves for Colorado that the reason they had never returned was because the car that had hit Delphi had belonged to one of the Laughlin boys. They later found out that one of the 3 sons had been hurt in that accident and later died. Delphi’s parents just didn’t know how to broach the subject with the Laughlin’s so they had created distance. Delphi finds out this information a mere 3 weeks before she leaves. She decides to continue with the trip because she misses her friends and she wants to see if she can find out any information about what really happened the night of her hit and run.

When Delphi gets to Colorado she feels like she’s home. The Laughlin family is so happy to see her and she fits right in. But what she doesn’t expect is to have this attraction to the middle son, Thomas aka Tam. Though she thought that Tam never cared for her, even when she was younger she can’t seem to keep her eyes off of him. Delphi is dealing with her attraction to Tam, her thoughts of the older boy, Bobby, as he tries to drown his life in alcohol each night, as well as her thoughts and feelings about the accident so long ago.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and I couldn’t help but be engrossed in the lives of all of the players. Delphi has a quick wit and the dialogue flowed so nicely I was completely engrossed in the story. I have to say I couldn’t put the book down until I found out exactly what had happened the night of the accident.
