Holly‘s review of Seduced by Her Highland Warrior (MacKinloch Clan, Book 2) by Michelle Willingham

The MacKinloch Clan Highland warriors prepared to fight fiercely for their country…and for love

BACK IN HER HUSBAND’S BED

Alex MacKinloch is chief of his clan and, in these dark times of unrest, he has united his people. The void between him and his wife is proving a much harder challenge. When Alex discovers Laren has been keeping secrets from him, his thinly veiled frustration can no longer be contained.

The pleasures of the marital bed seem long forgotten to Laren. Yet her warrior husband is looking at her with increasingly hungry eyes… This powerful highlander has seduction on his mind and his wife in his sights!

Laren and Alex have been married for 5 years. During that time he’s become the clan chief and they’ve lost a child. In their grief they lost touch with each other. Alex focused on work to block the pain, and Laren found solace in making hand-blown glass, something she learned from the local priest.

Now they’re stuck in the middle of battle torn Scotland. Their clans was attacked and they now need to rebuild from the ground up. Laren has kept her glass-blowing a secret from almost everyone in the clan, but now she sees an opportunity to finally do something useful by selling her pieces to fund the rebuilding efforts. The problem is, she’s terribly shy and public speaking terrifies her, so she has a hard time connecting to the other people in the clan.

Alex has never once regretted marrying Laren, but when she’s injured during the last battle he realizes how far apart they’ve grown. He wants to get their closeness back. He also wants to keep her safe and be what the clan needs him to be. Finding a balance isn’t easy, but he’s determined to make it work.

I struggled with the romance portion of this book.  I understood it was hard for them to find their way back together when there’s such a wide gulf between them, but 95% of their problems could have been solved if they’d just talked to each other.

I did love the secondary characters, external plot and setting. This time period is very intriguing. I liked the way the author incorporated real events into the storyline.  This is part of a series and I plan to search out the rest of the books.

Although well written and easy to read, parts of this novel fell flat for me. I do think the cast of supporting characters and great setting made up for some of  my frustrations, however.
