Kris‘ review of Lake Magic by Kimberly Fisk
After the loss of her fiancé Steven, Jenny Beckinsdale has more than a broken heart to deal with-their fledgling seaplane service is going under. In debt to Steven’s best friend and fellow Navy pilot, she plans to convince the sexy, cynical flyboy to help save the business…and in the process these two lost souls may find they’re saving each other.
This was a debut novel for Ms Fisk and it was a good one. Though it did take me a little to get into it. There was one point where I was not sure if it was going to work for me but I stuck it out and was pleased. The main issue for me was the hero. He started off as a jerk. I have a hard time reading jerky heroes even if they do get redeemed. He was not a total jerk but enough of one that I was not sure if I would like him in the end. I was glad a stuck with it, it turned out to be a cute story.
The story starts off with Jenny and her struggles to try to get her charter plane service a viable enterprise. Then enters Jared who, unknowingly to Jenny, is part owner of the company. She had made the mistake of not reading the contract before she signed when her and her now deceased fiance were starting the company. Jared is just there to call in his loan but she does not have the money. So Jared decides to try to bug her into selling to get rid of him. Little does he realize the more time he spends with her the more she will get under his skin.
Nice light contemporary read.
I give it a 3.5 out of 5
