I gave up on Ward quite some time ago (I think it was right after Z’s book). If there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s an inconsistent author. While I appreciated the fresh take on an old theme with Dark Lover, I’m afraid she lost me along the way. Somewhere in the middle of the second book, if I’m not mistaken. I stuck with her for awhile after, hoping she’d recapture the magic of Dark Lover, but sadly it soon became necessary for us to go our separate ways.
Two characters have always intrigued me, however: John Matthew and Tohrment. I speculated from the first that JM was really the reincarnation of Darius, who died in Dark Lover. He was mute so that he couldn’t share the secret (a condition of his being returned to Earth). Since I haven’t read the last few books, I can’t say what new developments there have been with his character/storyline. I know Xhex (pronounced Hex, in case you were wondering) is his heroine and that’s about it. Now his book, Lover Mine, is about to be released.
The hot new novel in the Black Dagger Brotherhood by the #1 New York Times bestselling author
John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown. Taken in by The Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was-or his true identity.
Xhex has long steeled herself against the attraction to John Matthew. Until fate intervenes and she discovers that love, like destiny, is inevitable.
So the question is..do I read it or not? The fact that it’s a hardcover already puts me off. Add in the fact that I haven’t read the last 4 or so releases and I’m leaning toward “no, not gonna”. But then I think, this is John Matthew, and I tip back the other direction.
What do you think? Are you planning to buy/read it?
Lover Mine will be available from Berkely, April 27, 2010. You can buy it here or here (for $12.99) in e-format.
