Review: Make Me a Match by Diana Holquist

Make Me a Match

Cecelia Burns’s To-Do List:

1. Pick out wedding dress and ignore psychic sister who says I’m marrying the wrong guy.

2. Really ignore her when she says the right guy is some stranger named Finn Concord, who’s dying, and this is my last chance to experience my One True Love of a lifetime. Ever.

3. Okay, fine. Find this Finn guy, tell him he’s dying, and split. Quick.

4. Stop staring at him…even though he does look pretty good for a guy who’s on his last legs. Oh god, those unforgettable eyes…those strong arms. And those kissable lips.

5. Take a deep breath and remember that psychics lie too, just like everyone else.

6. Then again, maybe there is something to this One True Love business after all. There’s only one way to find out…

Dr. Cecelia Burns has come a long way from the days of running cons with her family. Having long since put the past behind her, Cecelia is happy with her life, mundane though it may be. Engaged to a lawyer whom she knows is the perfect man for her, Cecelia doesn’t think life could get any better. Then it gets worse when her sister, Amy, shows up at her engagement party. Cecelia hasn’t seen Amy in ten years since they parted ways. Now she has shown up insisting on telling Cecelia who her One True Love is, something Amy promised she’d never tell her.

Finn Concord doesn’t know what to think when a strange woman slips him a note telling him that he’s dying and to see a doctor asap. What he does know is that he’s intrigued by this seemingly uptight woman who he can see is so much more than she appears to be. Finn has hangups of his own, though, including a wife who died of cancer and a daughter that is too smart for her own good. Though he doesn’t believe in this One True Love business, he does start believing that Cecelia might just be the woman for him.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I appreciated Cecelia as a heroine. Someone that has had to work hard for all she has, it was totally understandable that she wanted normal. What I didn’t like was Amy, her sister. I know that she has a book coming out and I have absolutely no interest in reading it. Amy was the most self-absorbed, selfish character ever. She didn’t tell Cecelia her One True Love just b/c she thought Finn was dying. Nope, she needed to be near Cecelia so her psychic ability would work. So it was all for herself. It was just distasteful.

I really don’t know if I’m even interested in continuing to read this series, especially since Amy seems to be a prominent character.

3.5 out of 5.

This book is available from Grand Central Publishing. You can buy it here.
