Ashlyn Baptiste is falling. One moment she was nothing—no memories, no self—and then suddenly, she’s plummeting through a sea of stars. Is she in a coma? She doesn’t remember dying, and she has no memories of the life she left behind. All she knows is that she’s trapped in a consciousness without a body and she’s spending every moment watching a stranger.

Breckon Cody’s on the edge. He’s being ripped apart by grief so intense it literally hurts to breathe. On the surface, Breckon is trying to hold it together for his family and his girlfriend, but underneath he’s barely hanging on.

Even though she didn’t know him in life, Ashlyn sees Breckon’s pain, and she’s determined to find a way help him. As her own distressing memories emerge from the darkness, she struggles to communicate with the boy who can’t see her, but whose life is suddenly intertwined with hers. In alternating voices of the main characters, My Beating Teenage Heart paints a devastatingly vivid picture of both the heartbreak and the promise of teenage life—a life Ashlyn would do anything to recover and Breckon seems desperate to destroy—and will appeal to fans of Sarah Dessen, John Green, and David Levithan.

This sounds like something I’d enjoy so I’m looking forward to reading it. It doesn’t come out for a few months (release date is marked as September 27, 2011) so I still have a bit of a wait but still, it just sounds good so I’m excited for this one.

I’ve read one book by this author and I enjoyed it so I’m looking forward to reading more. Who will be reading this book?

..and that’s your scoop!

Review: I Know, It’s Over by C.K. Kelly Martin.

Grade:
4.5 out of 5

Pure. Unplanned. Perfect. Those were Nick’s summer plans before Sasha stepped into the picture. With the collateral damage from his parents’ divorce still settling and Dani (his girl of the moment) up for nearly anything, complications are the last thing he needs. All that changes, though, when Nick runs into Sasha at the beach in July. Suddenly he’s neck-deep in a relationship and surprised to find he doesn’t mind in the least. But Nick’s world shifts again when Sasha breaks up with him. Then weeks later, while Nick’s still reeling from the breakup, she turns up at his doorstep and tells him she’s pregnant, and Nick finds himself struggling once more to understand the girl he can’t stop caring for, the girl who insists that it’s still over.

This is my April read for the 2009 YA Reading Challenge over at J.Kaye’s Book Blog. I’ve read a lot of good things about this book so I thought it would be a good thing to check out and I’m glad that I did because I ended up really enjoying this story.

This story is about teenager named Nick and the shifts his life takes when he finds out that he got his ex-girlfriend Sasha pregnant. We’re hearing this story from Nick’s POV and as are most of the YA books that I read, this story was told in first person. It’s a very emotional kind of book but I couldn’t stop turning the pages. It’s a very engaging story that makes you feel for the characters. Nick is your regular run of the mill teenager who is smacked in the face with a pregnant ex girlfriend.

I really enjoyed this book.

C.K. Kelly Martin tells the story of a young man who has a lot of decisions to make and who is trying to make the best out of a hard situation. This book was a lot more emotional than I thought it would be but that only added to the greatness that is this book. This book is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone to read because it was really good. As a mother, it hit home for me as I’m going to be dealing with this kind of scary stuff in a few years when Brenna becomes a teenager and I just really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story and not just Nick and Sasha. I enjoyed getting to know Nathan and read about his issues. This story tackles a lot of the issues that teens are facing these days and it really makes you sit up and think. For me, it hit home a little bit and I understood what both Sasha and Nick were going through and it was just really good.

Read this book if you’re into Young Adult books, it was definitely a page turner.

This book is available from Random House. You can buy it here.
