A Romance Novel by USA Today Bestselling Author Priscilla WestNote: This is the beginning of Jax & Riley's story. You DO NOT need to read any other books in The Forever Series before enjoying this one."I'm gonna enjoy it. Making you sexually frustrated. All that tension. No release."Everything about him warned me to stay away. I'd seen bad boys before, but he had it all and more. The rippling muscles covered in tatts, the piercing eyes hiding dark secrets, the silky voice that could make a girl come with just a whisper...He was exactly the type of guy that would get me in trouble, but when he jumped off the stage, inked skin glistening with sweat and breathed his seductive words into my ear, I couldn't resist the temptation. It was supposed to be the best one-night stand of my life, but fate didn't let it play out that way. Things happened. I got upset. I got hasty. And worst of all, I got reckless. After that disaster, I thought it was the last I'd see of him. But what I didn't know was that I'd started something. Something that could shatter the very thing I had worked so hard to protect. I should have known back then that the most seductive things in life are also the most dangerous.___________________Reading Order:The Forever series currently follows three different couples. Tracy’s review of Reckless (The Forever Series – Jax & Riley #1) by Priscilla West
Riley is at a bar with her friend when they announce an impromptu show by “The ‘Cocks.” Riley is mesmerized by the voice she hears and makes her way closer to the stage so that she can see the singer. When she does see him she’s left speechless by his beauty. He singles her out and asks her to come backstage after the show. She takes him up on his offer but the man she thinks of as the Siren starts playing with her (in the practical joke sense) and she gets pissed off and leaves.
Riley is an accountant and she gets an assignment to go on a two week tour with a rock band. She’s happy it’s not the Siren’s band as the initials for the tour band is HC. Yeah, guess she was wrong. It’s the Siren’s – whose real name is Jax – band and they’re actually named The Hitchcock’s. Jax is thrilled that Riley is their accountant for the tour but Riley isn’t so much. She still wants Jax but knows that she needs to keep her distance because it would be highly unprofessional to get sleep with him while on assignment. She does end up becoming friends with Jax and knows that she can’t take that extra step to the bedroom because it would mean more to her than just casual sex.
Jax is pretty persuasive however and soon they’re in bed together. Jax ends up being a pretty nice guy and not a complete bad boy as Riley first thought of him. He could be very sweet and definitely romantic. Unfortunately Jax is dealing with some heavy stuff in his mind and Riley is determined, now that she’s officially his girlfriend, to get him to talk about it. When Jax finally does open up about what’s on his mind it puts both Jax and Riley into a dangerous situation.
I liked the premise of this book and ended up liking Jax a whole lot. Unfortunately we only got to hear Riley’s POV so it made it a little difficult to know Jax completely.
Riley in this book did annoy me at some points, I must admit. While she had her insecurities, which were understandable, she really acted quite immature with Jax at times. Then when he refused to talk to her about his thoughts she hounded and hounded him until he finally came clean. I really wanted to slap the woman on occasion. Other times I really liked her and was happy that she was there for Jax when he needed someone to lean on, whether he knew he needed her or not.
The story, unfortunately ended right in the middle of a scene and I found that to be completely frustrating! I of course went and immediately bought book 2 because I had to know what happened. Unfortunately that was a bit of a frustrating read as well but that’s for another review.
Overall I liked the book, the characters and the story. While I had some issues with Riley I thought it was a good read.
