Burdened by Grief, She Hunts a Killer
They never found her sister's body, but Detective Rebecca Montgomery knows her murderer is still out there. In the five months since Danielle went missing, there have been two more brutal abductions. A savage menace stalks the women of San Antonio, and the relentless detective will do anything to find him.
And a Seductive Stranger Shadows Her Every Move
But her latest case—the discovery of a young woman's remains inside the wall of a burned-down theater—plunges Rebecca from her grief into a brand-new nightmare. She soon meets handsome, mysterious Diego Galvan at the crime scene, and his shadowy connections will lead to her first break in both cases. But when Rebecca submits to his considerable powers of seduction, she will leave herself vulnerable to a merciless killer . . . and when he attacks, no one will hear her scream.
This book was a DNF for me. It’s really sad considering I’m somewhat fanatical about finishing a book once I start it. So what was it about this book? I haven’t put my finger on that quite yet. If I hate a book, I keep reading it b/c I have to see if said book could actually get any worse than it already is. That’s why I seldom have a DNF review. With this book, it was just blah, for lack of a better word.
Detective Rebecca something-or-other has accepted that her sister is dead. Though she is not on the case, she’s been digging on her own time. After her Lieutenant tells her to back off or take a vacation, she takes a case where skeletal remains were found in the walls of an old theatre. That’s when she comes face-to-face with Diego Galvan.
That’s where it fell apart for me.
Like I said, it wasn’t a bad book. It just wasn’t believable. Rebecca was supposed to come across as this hard-as-nails cop, yet she immediately falls for someone whom she thinks has ties to the mob. Then she decides to blackmail said man into helping her or else. Come on. I just really didn’t care for Rebecca.
Diego was pretty hot and I’m sure if I liked Rebecca, I might have stuck with the story. Other than that, I really didn’t read far enough to form any other opinions on him.
I actually skipped to the back and read the ending. I never do that. I was actually surprised at myself. It was just too slow for me to really care about the middle of the book.
This book got rave reviews on Amazon. If anyone decides to try it, I’d be curious to know what you think.
