Tracy’s review of Text Me Love by Eli Shulga
This is a story told completely in text bubbles. I don’t think that they were always texting each other, as they sometimes said that they were so happy to find the other online. I got the feeling it was other social media rather than phone texting.
The story follows a couple that met and can’t get enough of each other. We never learn either of the names of the MC’s but he called her his “pretty princess” and she called him “my freckle” – which actually became incredibly annoying.
The pair seemed to find freedom in their messages as they wrote things that I can’t imagine anyone saying face to face. Romantic at times, you could certainly see the relationship growing. As the time went on – yes we’re gifted with a timeline – the messages became fewer as they saw more of each other and we learn how their relationship grows, to a point. We never get horribly in depth but you can’t really get too in depth via text, can you? Anyway, as they get closer we see them moving in together, etc. The male character was actually quite funny at times and I have to say that I enjoyed his texts much more than the female’s. She seemed quite whiny and could become annoying.
The book came closer and closer to the end and I can’t say what happened, as that would give too much away, but it was not good. After that it became just 3 long texts that were sad and became disturbing.
I never could quite get close to either character and sadly never felt any emotional pull toward either one. While I think this is a cute idea and I did laugh in parts sadly I can’t say that I enjoyed it.
