Books Ahoy!

Posted January 7, 2009 by Tracy in Miscellaneous | 14 Comments

Well I don’t have to take multiple pictures to show you of my bookshelves. I’ve given away about 10 bags of books in the last 6 months and still they spill over! Thank heavens for ebooks or else…

So these are my shelves. Everyone of them is double stacked. The left top shelf I’ve read, as well as the 3 middle shelves and the far right one. (The stuff on the bottom right is computer games that my hubby refuses to find another location for. There are cupboards below the shelves – use them! lol Stubborn.) The other 3 shelves on the left plus the books sitting on the desk are all tbr. I’m going to take a note from Nikki and buy the cd/dvd shelves and put them on the wall to the left of these shelves. My hubby is thrilled at the prospect! lol

So that’s all – nothing too exciting, enless you consider the content! 🙂

  1. Awesome, Tracy. You know, I found some cd/dvd shelves that hang on the wall that I want to get also! My mom acutally uses cd cases as book cases. They hold more books and they don’t stick out far and waste so much space like bookcases tend to do. They are perfect for her apartment.

The little racks I found would hold about 30 books. They’re small but I think they’re cute and would work in those small places where nothing else would fit!

  2. That’s it, I’m joinignin on the fun…..but that means I will have to go home after work today and tidy…(Urgh) before I take me pics….Poop.

Tracy, you’re a spine bender. Ebil! LOL

  3. I’m ruthless. I sell, sell sell anything that isn’t a definite keeper.

Ok, sometimes I’ve gone to re-read something and discovered that I sold it 6 months ago but, hey, it means I have some room in my house.

I also keep most of my books in drawers in my room so that little enquiring minds don’t get their hands on something saucy.

Thank goodness for ebook readers. hundreds of books kept in a tiny space (or two, or three – due to paranoia about losing hard-drives etc).

  4. Tracy I bought DVD/CD shelves for my books too. For some reason, they’re easier to find with glass doors than book shelves are. Cheaper too. And who wants to dust if we don’t have to, right? I bought triple sliding door cabinets from Target.com and just changed which door went in which track so that I could fit a section of hardcovers in each case too. The rest of the cabinet fits MMPs and trade sizes perfectly. So, yes, I second (third?) the rec for using DVD/CD cabinets!

  5. Nice!! Wow, Katie and you are really strict on the books you’re keeping 😀 I have sooo much!!

LOL, if hubby doesn’t want to find a new place, you can 😀

  6. I’ve been purging but I’m out of room and I have like 35 years of books. It’s so hard to let some of them go. *sigh*

  7. 35 years, Rosie? I’ve only been reading like this for about 5 years. I wonder what my library will look like in another 30. Will I still have most of the books I have now, or will I eventually part with them because others seem more important?

  8. Lol, that looks like my house, except I have six book cases scattered throughout every room in the house…I even donated a couple boxes to the library right before the holidays and somehow I came home with a new stack of books with no place to put them. Aghhh!

  9. Amy – yes, I'm thinking the ones I can hang on the wall that way it keeps the floor open.

Sayuri – as someone said to me: Doooo eeeet! You know you want to!
Yes, I'm a spine bender. Just all part of my lovely deviant personality. lol The funny thing is…I get all bent out of shape if people bend pages. Isn't that freaky. Bookmarks all the way baby!

Jenre – yes, I've become a little fanatical about getting rid of books too – but mostly because I've run out of space. I love ebooks for that exact reason! So many books in such a small space!

KB – I have to say…isn't it divine? It was already built in when we bought the house and I saw it and my head just went spinning! lol

Bev – Little glass doors! I didn't even think of that! You're brilliant! Thanks for the info.

Nath – I tried to move his shit and he had a friggin cow! He said that under no circumstances could I move the games. Bastard! lol I think he fears being over run with books. Yeah, like that's not gonna happen anyway. 🙂

Rosie – I can't imagine! You just have to be ruthless…in a good way. Just keep the ones you absolutely love.

Katie – omg you sound like me! I've started giving them to a friend who's dad started a library. That way I don't have to go INTO a library and be tempted to come out with more!

Jenb & Anna – thanks chickies!
