Review: Amber Eyes by Maya Banks

A beautiful, vulnerable woman appears at the high country cabin where Hunter and Jericho live between assignments. They are captivated by their stunning, reticent visitor and vow to protect her—and uncover what she’s hiding. Neither is prepared for the unbelievable. In the shelter of their love, Kaya blooms, finally willing to trust—and embrace her humanity again. Then Hunter and Jericho are called away on a mission that goes terribly wrong. Now, pregnant, and alone once more, she must find her way in a world she doesn’t belong to—and hope that the two men she loves will find their way home.

Cold, hungry and hurt Kaya approaches the cabin of Jericho and Hunter with much trepidation. She’s been alone and on her own for a very long time and being a cougar shifter she finds it extremely hard to trust anyone.

Jericho and Hunter have big hearts and take the woman in but with lots of questions on their minds. They find that both of them are attracted to her but had been a relationship together with a woman before and swore they would never do it again. Yet they find they can’t stop themselves. It doesn’t seem to matter when every time they wake up they find Kaya missing.

They eventually all learn to trust and start a relationship. Kaya believes that these two men are her mates and wants to be protected and cared for by them. For all of her independence she is quite innocent due to her lack of connection with humans.

Unfortunately Jericho and Hunter get called away on a mission but will only be gone for a couple of weeks. Kaya has enough food to last months so there is no issue there. Unfortunately for all of the men’s good planning Kaya finds herself pregnant, unable to shift back to her cougar and alone for months. The men return home to find her gone.

This is a great story. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good shifter story and this is a good one. I thought that even though this was a 3 person love story which is always difficult to pull off and there are a couple of menage scenes involved which were very erotic, the story has a great romantic flow to it. Hunter and Jericho were very concious of Kaya and her needs as well as their own needs (not sexual) and worked with each other to make the best of the situation. Their previous relationship lacked a trust factor so they were very aware of the other people involved.

I thought Kaya’s twist at the end of the story – being alone and pregnant was horrid but a nice change. With two alpha males normally you wouldn’t think that could/would happen but I thought it flowed nicely. There was another part of the story for Kaya as well dealing with her family issues and even though I felt that that part of the story was the weakest it was still good.
