Help A Girls Out with Erotic Romance Suggestions

Posted December 2, 2009 by Tracy in Miscellaneous | 18 Comments

A friend of mine wants to give her hubby, as a joke, an erotic romance for Christmas (among many other things). She thinks it will be funny. I think it will only cement the thought that he already has that she reads porn, not romance. But hey, it’s not my husband so whatever. I’m just here to help a girl out.

So what I need is some erotic romance selections that have been released in paperback. I have some (and so does she) but they are only in ebook. What are your suggestions?

Here’s a cookie to try and help jog your thought processes.

  1. Hey Tracy!!! Wow, she is a brave woman, lol!
Sasha White writes some major hot erotic books… Damn, I will have to go look in my closet and see what other names I can give you…
Hope you had a great day!

  2. Um, Samhain has print and ebooks (I think you can search to just see print) and has much more tasteful covers than, say, Ellora's Cave. Looking through what I've read from Samhain, The Butterfly Tattoo was awesome (lotsa crying here, tho, plus some flashback m/m). Wishful Thinking: The Swann Sisters Chronicles was fun – no tears, no m/m. 🙂

Hmm. Lora Leigh. Emma Holly. Lauren Dane. Beth Kery.

  3. I'm having a hard time with this one, because the appeal in erotica or erotic romance (for me anyway) is always the heroine's journey. For me, it's all about her. So I'm not sure how well some of my favorite authors would translate for "a guy." There might be too much "messy female emotional stuff" for his liking.

But if she wanted to show him that not all naughty books are mindless porn? Megan Hart. Hands down. Megan Hart. I'd probably go with Broken.

  4. Well I would suggest something from Ellora's Cave if she's doing it as a joke because they tend to have raunchier covers. Pretty much any EC book would do LOL. Opal Carew also writes the kind of stuff you'd likely find in Penthouse letters…or so I've heard.

If she wants to give him something sexy but a little less glaringly obvious, something he might even read, there's Lacey Alexander or Emma Holly. Beth Kery's Wicked Burn is a favorite too.

Have to agree with Wendy on Megan Hart. Her books are amazing.

  5. I second all of the above selections, although if it's a joke why not Dark Lover – a little Wrath action? Then they can joke about peaches and the kids won't get it…

  6. Six by Opal Carew. They could read it together. 😉

Or what about Laurell K. Hamilton? My husband read the Anita Blake series earlier in the year, and he's reading the Merry Gentry books now. He'd kill me for telling y'all, but he loves LKH. lol

  7. Oh thank you! These are all great suggestions…some I've read, some I've not. I'll have her take a look and pick one or two that you've suggested.

I knew you all would come through for me! 🙂

  8. Tam

I assume she doesn't want m/m huh? That might tip him over the edge. LOL

I think Nalini Singh`s Psy series is really good because it's got the whole subplot of the political intrigue.

  9. EH- He has no taste in books – he doesn't normally read! lol

And Tam – as much as I love Nalini I don't think I'd classify her work as erotic romance. I think my friend is looking for more sex than story. lol

  10. Joey Hill's 1st Vampire Queen book- The Vampire Queen's Servant. Blow his mind, expand his horizons. ;-D

Is he a role-play gamer? How about the 1st of Jean Johnson's Sons of Destiny series, The Sword; not a true erotic romance but steamy enough and "guy" enough to ease him into it.

I have lots more, but it would depend on his interests I guess.

  11. Tam

Then I say shock him to the core and get him some hardcore Sean Michael m/m/m. If you`re going to try and shock him then just go for the gold. LOL Throw in some fisting, sounds and a cross-dresser for good measure.

  12. I wouldn't buy an erotic romance for my husband. He'd consider it a hint! There are some things I only want to read about, not actually DO, LOL.

I guess I'd choose Riding Wild by Jaci Burton. It's your basic no-frills sex romp.

For a more thoughtful read, I second Megan Hart's Dirty.

  13. I like Lacy Alexander & second Sasha White (don't know if they have print books, though). I think I guy would go for some of Alexander's smut — not too emotional. ;P

  14. The 'Dangerous' books by Lisa Marie Rice (Avon Red). The covers are hot but tasteful and the stories are even hotter! She really gets into the heroes' heads too, not just the heroines. 🙂
