This is the fourth book in the Danvers series by Sydney Landon. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but when this book came across my radar, it sounded like something I’d enjoy so I picked it up.
This book is about Ella Webber and Declan Stone coming together in love. They both work together at Danvers and they struck up a friendship that has become more meaningful to the both of them. Ella has a crush on Declan and he knows it but he’s going through some issues from his time in the military, things that he hasn’t completely dealt with and he feels like he can’t give Ella what she deserves so he keeps her at a distance. Only thing is, Ella doesn’t want distance. She wants Declan and if he wants a girl with more experience then she’s going to get that experience. She’ll do whatever she needs to if in the end, she’ll get Declan.
This book had a lot going for it but over the course of the book, I couldn’t help but want more from the story. I wanted more from the story, more from the characters and it was while I was reading this book that I missed romances of old that had me all twisted in knots over what was happening. When I first started reading books, I was reading books by Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood and Linda Howard. Those authors really packed in the angst and even though there were times when I wanted something a little lighter to read, at the end of the day my favorite stories were the stories that broke my heart and mended it right back up in the midst of one story. I feel like these days, I get more of the light and fluffy books that I enjoyed but won’t ever remember after years have passed.
And that’s how this book is. It’s light and fluffy and the story is good but for me, it doesn’t have that long standing power that I want when I read a story. Declan was fine as a hero, as was Emma. But I closed this book wanting more from the book. I’m not even sure that I could tell you what more I wanted. I just closed this book feeling unfulfilled and I was ready to move on fairly quickly.
So this is my review. This book is good. It’s got a solid cast of characters and a main couple that made me smile but that’s it. It’s just good.
