Hero: Aidan Donnelly
Heroine: MacKenzie Stafford
Grade: 4.5 out of 5
Firefighter Aidan Donnelly has always battled the flames with trademark icy calm. That is, until a blazing old flame returns—in the shape of sizzling soap star Mackenzie Stafford! Aidan wants to pour water over the unquenchable heat between them. But that just creates more steam…. Kenzie is not the delicate, fragile female she looks like. She has one clear objective, and nothing will stand in the way of her goal—well, nothing but the red-hot touch of a certain dangerously sexy fireman, that is!
I’m one of those readers who is completely Harlequin dumb. I don’t know the difference between Blaze, Presents and all the other lines that Harlequin has but I picked this up at Target because I remembered the buzz around blogland about it and because I read Jill Shalvis’ blog everyday and I think she’s pretty awesome.
This was one of those quick little romps that made me laugh, sigh and drool all over my book at how hot Aidan Donnelly was. I’m a fan of the old flings rekindled storylines and this was one of those. Aidan is a firefighter and Kenzie is an ex-soap star who’s brother died. Her brother, Blake was a friend of Aidan’s and a firefighter who worked with Aidan as well. She came back to her hometown to say her goodbyes to her brother when there’s an explosion near his boat, while she’s inside the boat.
There’s a huge fire and Kenzie is rescued by none other than her ex boyfriend who dumped her 6 years ago and left her high and dry because things were getting too serious for him. Her brother’s been accused of being behind arson jobs, one of which killed a young child and Kenzie doesn’t believe it and even though evidence points directly at Blake, Aidan doesn’t want to believe it either.
This book was one of those really fast reads that you read, read, read and you’re done. It zipped right through but I still enjoyed the heck out of the book. I enjoyed the characters (I’ve got to get my hands on Flashpoint soon) and I enjoyed this storyline. I liked the way that JS weaved this story, she did a great job sucking me in and I’m totally hooked, I want more.
Aidan was a great hero. Sexy, cool and so effing hot. I may need to leave those Military guys alone and find myself a smexy firefighter. I loved getting to know Aidan and I loved seeing his feelings for Kenzie slowly come to the surface, it was great stuff….I also loved how he was there for Kenz too, I mean she had to have driven him right up the wall but he stuck by her because she needed someone and he was there. It was just great.
Kenzie on the other hand, I could see where some people wouldn’t care for her but though she did get on my nerves sometimes, I liked her. When she came back and was telling Aidan that this time around, she was going to break his heart and how she wanted him to beg her their first time back together again.
Overall, this book was great, I’m glad I read it and am sooo looking forward to more from Jill Shalvis. Kudos to JS!
This book is available from Harlequin Blaze. You can buy it here or here in e-format.
GREAT review Rowena! I loved this book. Jill is an all-time favorite. And I adore firefighters. I have a contest to win “Trial By Fire” because I loved it so much.
Yay! Glad you liked this one. Jill is pretty awesome, isn’t she? 😛
Meanwhile, I should get my butt in gear and read it already. LOL
I’ve just discovered Blaze, and I love Jill Shalvis. I just bought Flashpoint and have heard great things about it, so I guess I’ll be adding Flashback to my shopping list as well. Thanks for wrting a great review!
