Casee‘s review of Sweet Persuasion (Sweet series, Book 2) by Maya Banks.

For five years, Serena has run Fantasy Incorporated and devoted her time to fulfilling her clients’ fantasies, but never her own. Until now… Her most secret desire is to give ownership of her body to a man. Someone who will command her, pleasure her, and have complete authority over her. So she seeks out Damon Roche, owner of an exclusive sex club and a man strong enough to make her do anything he wants. Anything.

The hero of this book is the elusive Damon Roche, who was first introduced in Sweet Surrender. For those of you that have read the book, think back to the sex club owner. His character is so perfect for owning a sex club.

Serena’s deepest, darkest secret is that she desires to be completely and totally sexually dominated. She turns to her friend, Faith, for advice. Faith in turn sends Serena to Damon.

Serena is already in the business of making fantasies come true, even when sex has nothing to do with it. When Damon offers her a chance to fulfill her sexual fantasy, Serena can’t pass up the chance. What she didn’t expect was that Damon himself would be the man in her fantasies.

When Damon first spoke to Serena, it was strictly business. When he realizes that Serena herself is the “client” in question, he abruptly decides that he will be the man to fulfill her. Damon has never been so attracted to a woman as he is to Serena. Yet he is wary. He knows from experience that while some people like to play at the life of D/s, very few are strong enough to live it day in and day out.

I think that Maya did a wonderful job of writing Serena’s character. I could practically feel Serena’s confusion as she tried to sort out her feelings. Could she be submissive and still be a strong woman? Serena really doesn’t understand how that is possible. Another thing that I think was interesting was how she wrote about the submissive one being the stronger one in the D/s relationship. When you think about it, it makes sense.

Serena’s confusion really is heartbreaking. And not just for her. Damon fell in love with her without any intention of doing so. He just doesn’t know if he can be who he truly is and the man that Serena wants.

4 out of 5.
