I never seem to use bookmarks properly. I’ve gotten some bookmarks which i thot looked really cool but then lost it.. smwhere.. and still dont know where. I also used to get those free bookmarks. a whole heap of them, but never could seem to hold on to them. Now, i use a any scrap of paper to bookmark. If i get a free bookmark i like (oh, i have specific tastes :P), i get it, but who knows hw long i can hold on to!

PS: i believe i’ve donated more than my share of bookmarks to the library ^-^

  2. I have a lot of LOTR cards from my LOTR days so I have been using those until they fall apart, I tend to play with them while I read. And I do have many.

Now I use bookmarks about books and from authors

  3. I love bookmarks !! I colect them actualy 😉 My box is a bit small now, I really have to get a bigger one… which is good sign !

Great contest today, pleaase count me in !!

  4. Turns out a bookmark is just another thing for me to lose.

I turn down the corner of the page.

I know. Book lovers every where cry.

I use bookmarks. I have my own bookshop booksmarks and loads of bookmarks sent to me with my orders from The Book Depository. I also have some sent to me from the lovely authors Marliss Melton and Jacquie D’Alessandro (these are signed!). My favourite bookmark though is one made for me from my daughter in kindergarten.

I am going to Madrid so don’t include me in this giveaway. I am hoping a few will still be due when i retuen next week :).

  6. I have literally tons of author bookmarks (paper ones)so when in need I just need to pick one. But still I have this tick to look for bookmarks in other materials. I have two leather ones (1 from Italy and from from France) and not too long ago I bought a stainless steel one in the shape of a very big paperclip, with an outcut of the initial of my first name. This last one is my favorite and I use it the most.

  7. I use bookmarks! I love them and collect them. My kids are always making them for me or buying them as gifts. My 3yo always has to pick up a few every time we are at our used book store…and he always picks the ones that are for racier books. It has become quite the joke between the owner and I.

  8. If I have a book mark, I’ll use it. Which is a rather recent phenomenon, as I used to just remember where I was in each book. Now I’m older and stupider 😛
So I use anything. Receipts, scrap paper, and yes, proper bookmarks that are lying around.

  9. I usually do use bookmarks although I don’t pay much attention to which one I am using. I have used reciepts though when I don’t have a bookmark handy.

  10. I love bookmarks (and it horrifies to see people dog-earring their books *shudders*)… but i never use my real bookmarks when i read a book. I every book i have there is the receipt (or a piece of it) from my order. I can’t help myself i need that receipt as a bookmark.

So i keep a little box with all my real bookmarks in it lol

    (can Internationals enter the contest?)

  11. I use bookmarks…usually the author ones. I had one of those metal ones with the beads hanging off which is fine until you drop your book and it goes flying 🙁 Pretty but not functional. I refuse to dog ear the pages 🙂 so if I can’t find one..anything will work in a pinch.

  12. No bookmarks for me. Coupons, lost little slips of paper, business cards. Whatever I can find I will just stick it in there. I would loose the bookmarks…I cannot kepe track of that stuff! 🙂

I have lots of bookmarks. Some fancy ones that were gifts, many freebies, and some that my children have made for me. My favourite ones are the ones my kids have made. How can you go wrong with hearts and “I love you Mom” on them?

  14. It always depends where I start the book. I’ve got a little addiction in hording postcards so I use them often when the book is big enough. I always get bookmarks in the bookstores and sometimes when I don’t find a postcard or a bookmark I just grab what is next to me.

  15. Kawthar

I usually grab the first scrap of anything I can reach to bookmark my page. I love bookmarks but I never seam to know where mine are. And also depends on the book, I might have dozens of random markers between pages. 😉

  16. Scorpio

I like using bookmarks as I am one of those people who hate earmarking pages. I’m partial to small post-it notes so that it sticks on the page but I use normal bookmarks if one is readily available.

Recently, I was reading the “Fitzwilliam Darcy: Gentleman” series by Pamela Aidan and Mr. Darcy kept Eizabeth’s bookmark of colored threads as a token to remember her by and I thought “how lovely & romantic” – I should find me some thread, you never know! =)

  17. QLady48

I collect book marks, love the ones from authors the most!!! I only like paper ones, never got into the metal clippy ones. My favorite is from my daughter and it has a ribbon that hangs out. I have used any scrap of paper in the car when I needed to start a newly purchased find. LOL

  18. I use receipts, junk mail, post-its, whatever is handy. I hate fancy or metal bookmarks…they’re too expensive and I always end up losing them.

  19. I try to use bookmarks but I always seem to lose them when I go to close the book at night so I just end up remembering the page number. I love bookmarks that have the sayings on them.

  20. My favourite bookmark is a sticky note. It won’t fall out and I can stick it anywhere. I do love REAL bookmarks, though, but I just collect those. Some are so pretty!

  21. Sometimes I use bookmarks while other times I use just any paper thats laying around. My favorite bookmarks are the once that has some kind of tail string on it.

  22. I have a little basket filled with author bookmarks, and I usually just grab one from there.

Great collection of books today! Thanks for the chance to win. 🙂

  23. It is pretty sad, I have a ton and I mean well and try not to use what is laying around, but my 2 year old likes them too so he usually takes them from me or out of my books!!!

  24. I have a lot of bookmarks and use them. At first I didn’t dare to use any of the bookmarks authors sent me (I only wanted to admire them), but nowadays I use those ones also.

  25. I love bookmarks. My favourite one is a cross-stitched one I designed for myself and that one always gets used in my main book. Any secondary books I am reading (can have as many as four on the go)have any author ones that I have around.

  26. Mhlia

If I purchase a book I don’t use a book mark typically… I dogear. (Sorry!) If it is from the library, it’s some random card (or boarding pass) or something that holds up better than regular paper.

  27. I love bookmarks, but if I don’t have one handy I will grab any piece of scrap paper that I can find. I just can’t bring myself to dog ear a page.

I do have one fav bookmark that is simple and has a tassle at the end which makes it easy to find and doesn’t get lost in the book…sadly I have misplaced it so am currently using my other fav kind which are author bookmarks featuring their books. Love those too 🙂

  28. MUM

If there isn’t a bookmark around I’ll use just about anything. Including a gum wrapper. lol. I NEVER, I repeat NEVER dog ear books. My father always taught me to never do that.

    Marie

  29. I use a sturdy laminated bookmark longer than the book I am reading. They don’t bend and I don’t mind if I lose it. But I collect the author bookmarks for keepsake and then match them to the book when I have finished reading. I know I’m a quirky bookworm.

  30. M.

If I’m reading for myself, I use a bookmark, but if I plan to review I mark so many spots that I have to grab whatever is handy – an elastic band, overdue notice, granola bar wrapper…

  31. I have some awesome hand made bookmarks from a good friend that I try to use. I also have what’s called a book thong, that another friend makes. I really try hard not to dog ear anymore just cuz I like to keep books nice.

  32. My husband and I have season tickets to our city’s baseball team. He has laminated a few of the tickets and I use them as bookmarks. Dorky but true 😀

  33. Anonymous

I sometimes use a bookmark and sometimes I use whatever piece of paper that is around. Usually if I’m at work, it’s a post-it note, where if I’m home I have a pretty heart charm type bookmark. Would love the opportunity to use my pretty one on the books you’re giving away.

    Lynn R.

  34. I love bookmarks. I don’t have a favorite. I try to match the bookmark to the book I’m reading. I have some signed bookmarks but I won’t use them.

  35. It depends on what type of book I’m reading.

For hardbacks and large paperbacks (not mass print format), I use a read leather fringed bookmark a co-worker gave me about 10 years ago! Sometimes, I use a bookmark with a picture of King Tut on it.

For mass print paperbacks, I have a cloth book cover (it looks like a mouse reading a book). The mouse’s tail hangs from the cover’s bottom and is long. The tail is to used as a bookmark. The cover is old and faded from many washings but I love it!

    Thanks,
    Tracey

  36. I usually use the library receipt since I can never remember when the books are due. Or if I’ve bought the book, I’ll memorize the last page number I read.

  37. Anonymous

Perhaps it’s a sign that I leave too many books unfinished, but I can never seem to keep ahold of my bookmarks. Even the adorable ones that have my son’s picture on them. 🙁 — willaful

  38. I was never a bookmark person, until this very special book mark came along 🙂 It was a b-day present from my bestie, she had a silver book mark from things remembered engraved with my name on one side and my favorite quote on the back. It’s actually one of my all time favorite gifts.

  39. Anonymous

I like the baseball ticket idea.

As for me whatever scrap of paper is laying around. I always seem to loose bookmarks if I have any.

    Rose G.

  40. My library always has free bookmarks at the circulation desk. Earlier this week I picked up one advertising a National Parks series on PBS. It has wildflower seeds in it and planting instructions on it!

  41. I have a collection of what I call “pretty” bookmarks which were given to me or I bought. But I never use them due to it being so “pretty,” I am afraid that I will lose them. I mostly use the free paper ones from Borders. The bookmark has to match the actually length of the book-I guess it’s the OCD in me. 🙂

  42. I have some lovely bookmarks; people who know me as a reader often give them to me as gifts, rather than trying to pick a book that I haven’t already read. I like them, but I rarely use them, because I don’t keep them handy.

When I request a book from my library, it comes with a slip of paper in it that shows my card number. There are always a few of those handy, so that’s mostly what I end up using.

  43. Jane

I do normally use bookmarks, but sometimes I have to use whatever is lying around. I don’t have a favorite bookmark, I like them all.

  44. Emma L.

I’ve gotten some nice bookmarks as gifts, but I can never find them when I want them. I usually use tissues, napkins, or scraps of paper.

  45. I have a ton of bookmarks of different sizes. My favorites are ones that have a picture on one side. When I use those I put the picture side facing the page that I left off on. I know – OCD much? LOL

  46. jen

I use bookmarks. Primarily because I don’t like folding a page of my book, even if it’s just a corner of it. 🙂 I have a tiny collection of them which I buy from a bookstore. The ones I have are those with a short quote and cute pictures on them.

Hope I can be included in the contest even if i’m so far away! 😀

Nice blog you got here! 😀

  47. I don’t what the time is here in the Midwest so I will see if I am to late to enter. I go on the computer late at night mostly since I work.

Yes, yes, yes! I always use bookmarks in my books. Whenever I receive bookmarks from authors, I love to have a matching bookmark with the authors book! Also, believe it or not but I have two binders with author bookmarks saved in it that I just love! I have them all alphebetized by the author’s last name. Am I weird or what?

  48. contest closed. The winner will be announced at midnight.

I loved reading all your comments about bookmarks. I’m always losing mine, too. Then one day I’ll find a pile of them in some random place. It’s like they’re drawn to each other or something.
