Author Spotlight: Rachel Gibson Joins Us on Book Binge!

Posted November 8, 2010 by Rowena in Features | 29 Comments

We at Book Binge couldn’t be more excited to have the one and only Rachel Gibson here to discuss her upcoming release, ANY MAN OF MINE (Avon, 2011).

If you read True Love and Other Disasters then you’ll remember the hero from this new book and like me, you’re probably anxious! Please help me give Rachel Gibson a great big Book Binge worthy warm welcome!

WELCOME TO BOOK BINGE RACHEL!

Let’s get on with the questions, shall we?

The hero of ANY MAN OF MINE, Sam, has appeared in your previous novels. Did you always know he’d eventually get his own story? Tell us a little about him.

Rachel Gibson: The first time Sam made an appearance in True Love And Other Disasters, I knew I’d write his book. I always knew there was more to him than a pretty face and a mean right hook. Sam has lived through a tragedy in the past that he didn’t deal with particularly well. Through the book, you see him really come to terms with his past and understand his actions.

How does the catch-phrase, “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” play into your plotline?

Rachel Gibson: Oh yeah. Only, what happened to Sam and the heroine Autumn didn’t stay in Vegas. The idea for the book started with the question: what happens to all those people who get drunk and think it’s really funny to get married by an Elvis impersonator? What happens in the morning when they wake up hung over and think, “holy crap! What have I done?”

Sam and Autumn truly have a love/hate relationship. Tell us what it was like for you to bring them together?

Rachel Gibson: Well like all my books I think, “this is going to be a really easy premise to write.” But of course it’s always difficult. Especially when you write about a heroine who has a very good reason to hate the hero. Love and hate are such strong emotions, and I had to walk a real fine line with both these characters. I had to give Sam some compelling reasons for why he did the things he did and to show him change and grow. And Autumn had to learn to forgive and let go of all her anger and resentment. Which was really difficult for her.

What can we expect from your next novel? Any familiar faces?

Rachel Gibson: In Any Man Of Mine, you will definitely see characters from True Love And Other Disasters and Nothing But Trouble. Any Man Of Mine is the last of the hockey series, but I will be taking the heroine’s brother from Any Man Of Mine and writing his story next.

Wow, we’ve got lots to look forward to once Any Man of Mine is released and then we have the promise of another book with a character that we’ll meet in AMoM and I, for one, am super excited! I’m also a little sad that this will be our last hockey book but all good things must come to an end, right? I have every faith that Rachel Gibson will keep the party going with something equally awesome in the future!

Thanks so much Rachel Gibson for joining us today to talk about your upcoming book, we wish you nothing but the best of luck and we can’t wait to read Sam’s story for ourselves. Make sure you mark your calendars for the release of Any Man of Mine. It comes out on April 26, 2011 and you can pre-order it here, here or here.

  1. Woe – I will miss the hockey books and I’m not even much of a hockey fan; but still very excited for Any Man of Mine.

The giveaway is funny because I couldn’t identify a Rachel Gibson book I haven’t read – but then I checked the backlist twice and think I might have missed Lola Carlyle somewhere along the way. Must correct the oversight.

No, No, NO!! I don’t want the hockey series to end! I don’t even like hockey but I love these books and these characters!! And, being as I live outside Seattle, I keep hoping to run into one. Preferably one that will want an older, full figured woman!

I’ve read all of RG’s works but I lost my copy of See Jane Score. So if I were to win, I’d pick See Jane Score and … I’m not sure. I’d have to see which book on the shelf has had the most air time and needs to be refurbished. LOL

  3. Hi everyone. I am kind of sad to see the hockey series end, too. Although, I am sure that some time in the future I’ll get an urge to write a few more.

  4. I was never a huge hockey fan until I fell in love with Mark Messier. So I guess for me, it has always been the men who play the game more than the game itself. All that sweat and testosterone is a lethal combo.

I’m not a sports fan, but that’s never stopped me enjoying a sport romance. 🙂

I don’t remember Sam! I’m bad that way. But I look forward to reading his book anyway. Sounds like my kind of plot. — willaful

  6. Aww, I love the hockey books.
    🙂
I’m going to read Nothing but Trouble soon (’cause I don’t really remember Sam from True Love!)

    Great interview!!

  7. I randomly picked up True Love and Other Disasters off the bookshelf having never read a book by you before. I feel like I must of been in a cave. I loved it so much that I immediately read it a second time. I couldn’t believe I have never read a book by you before. Away I went on a hunt for the rest of the series and picking up your other books. I’ve equally loved all your books and I cannot wait for Sam’s story. You are now a must for me and if I see your name, I grab it. I would love love love to win See Jane Score. It’s the only Chinook Hockey book that I do not own and haven’t read. I have several other books of yours too and I think I am missing just a handful and then my Rachel Gibson collection will be complete, but first thing is first and I really need See Jane score 🙂

Don’t count me in for the giveaway…I own ALL of Rachel’s books. 🙂 We share the same name and we both are pretty awesome…she’s an AMAZING author and I love her!! I haven’t found a Rachel Gibson book I haven’t liked. Triple love her!

GREAT interview, can’t wait for the new release!!

  11. *cough cough* …. I’ve only recently “discovered” RG (truly madly yours, simply irresistable i think) … i like the way she writes even though it makes me blush sometimes … LOL

    great interview !

  12. Great interview! Like all the others I hate to see the hockey series end, but will love anything that you write. After reading your interview I wish April was already here, because I can’t wait tell “Any Man of Mine” is out!

  13. Rowena

@Cursing Mama- I know what you mean, I thought I had read every RG out but there are still a few that I haven’t touched yet.

    Good luck!

  14. I’ve only read one book of Rachel’s – True Love and Other Disasters – but I enjoyed it and I’d love to win two of her backlist. I’d especially love to get Nothing But Trouble – I read an excerpt before it came out and I’ve been meaning to pick it up but my mountainous TBR pile has gotten in the way.

  15. I haven’t read any Rachel Gibson myself, but this author spotlight month is making me want to read her more and more!

I would, of course, have to start at the beginning of the series, because I don’t do reading out of order.

  16. See Jane Score was my first. I fell in love with Luc & his tattoo.
After that, I bought up whatever RG books I could find. I have every one except Lola Carlyle Reveals All and Simply Irresistible. I have to read SI to find out why John beat out Luc in your Last RG man standing poll.LOL

  17. Jane

Congrats on the upcoming release, Rachel. I’m sad that this will be the last book in the series, but am looking forward to meeting Autumn’s brother.

  18. Hi, I read my first Rachel Gibson (see Jane score – love Luc) in April of this year and then proceeded to buy most of the backlist. I especially liked Luc and Jane’s story and then Rob and Kate’s (Valentine’s Day) which got me very curious about Dylan and Hope’s story which I am having immense difficulty in finding so I’d definitely like that one. By the way, the premise of AMoM sounds wonderful – a drunk wedding in Vegas – I am so there in April.

  19. I love your hockey books! They are just so full of alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines that it’s really hard to resist them! 🙂 Oh, and can you please get the “urge”, you mentioned above, pretty soon?
