Today we welcome Annie Nicholas, paranormal romance author and digital girl.
I Am a Digital Girl
Hello everyone,
I’m Annie Nicholas and I’ll be your guide to the digital aspect of publishing books from an author’s point of view.
Not long ago, I mean, what? Four years ago? I’d never heard of an ebook. Amazon hadn’t even launched their Kindle yet. Like any aspiring author, I was struggling to figure out how to get my book published. Luckily for me, I met a group of romance writers in a forum called Romance Divas. This is where I learned about this magical thing called ebooks.
Writers are another breed of avid readers so this concept fascinated me. Books without paper on a tablet. Were we in a Star Trek episode? Cool. What I wouldn’t have done for this technology in college when I had to lug fifty pounds of text books on my back. I think I’m a pretty forward looking person and the possibilities bloomed before me.
I’d been researching agents and subbing my manuscript the old fashion way when I heard about Amazon releasing their Kindle within the year. This was a calling. A light bulb moment. The angels came out and sang!
I needed to get on this bandwagon. I needed to be one of the pioneers in digital publishing! Books available with just a touch of the screen. I live an hour away from the closest bookstore so this appealed to me in a huge way and I knew I wouldn’t be the only one. My bookshelves were cluttered and basement filled with boxes of books so storing them digitally also was a bonus. Then I thought of all the trees we’d be saving by not using paper and less gas burned from the transport. I couldn’t find a single thing wrong with the idea.
As a writer, I find digital publishing offers things differently than the print books publishers. Royalties are higher since costs to produce them are less, the books could be priced lower on the market and they could be produced quicker. All excellent things.
I made my decision. I’d be a digital girl.

Annie Nicholas hibernates in the rural, green mountains of Vermont, where she dreams of different worlds, heroes, and heroines. When spring arrives the stories pour from her, in hopes to share them with the masses one day.
Mother, daughter, wife are some of the hats she happily wears while trudging after her cubs through the hills and dales. The four seasons an inspiration and muse.
Her first book with Carina Press, Starved for Love, released September 2012!
After almost dying of starvation to remain faithful to a mortal lover, succubus Pia Blyton now shields her heart by feeding solely on men she won’t fall for. The only trick is, to create energy to survive, she must achieve orgasm. At least that rules out bad sex with her three lovers. Too bad she’s a sucker for falling in love.
When her demon lover doesn’t arrive for their arranged rendezvous, Pia is forced to ask her vampire lover to step in before her energy becomes dangerously low. In return he demands a favor and Pia finds herself in the hotel suite of the mysterious Valerio Hunan, who seduces her with a devastating kiss. Too late Pia learns he’s an incubus who wants to lure her into marriage–a marriage without love.
As an incubus used to bedding a variety of succubi, Val doesn’t understand Pia’s yearning for love. He needs a succubus wife to provide him with a steady source of energy. But he wants Pia for the passion and renewed interest in life she makes him feel. Can Pia convince Val that sex isn’t just for survival and love is for more than the weak?
Thank you for sharing your story! Tablets are just great, I agree. “Starved for Love” sounds good: that summary is intriguing. And the cover is beautiful, too!
Thanks, Aurore. 😀
