When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn’t wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can’t cry for someone who has no soul. The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad’s ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend’s loyalty to the test.

But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can’t possibly understand. Kaylee can’t let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

I absolutely adored the first book in this series. Simply devoured that book as soon as I picked it up and was super excited to start this book. While I enjoyed this book, I think I enjoyed the newness of the first story better.

My Soul to Save follows Kaylee, Nash and Tod on their quest to save pop star Addison Page’s soul from the hellions who took it from her. Kaylee and Nash are doing this for Tod because Tod has some super sized feelings for Addison since Addy was his ex girlfriend. With or without their help, Tod was going to do it but he needed them and Kaylee couldn’t turn him away if there was any way that she could help. Nash isn’t happy at all because all of this is none of their business and he doesn’t want to endanger himself or Kaylee but because Kaylee is a do gooder, he’s in this for her because that’s his girl.

Watching Kaylee learn more about what she is and how to do things that bean sidhe’s can do made for some good reading. Watching her relationship with Nash grow made for some fantastic reading.

In this book, we learn more about Nash’s brother Tod and new characters are introduced. I enjoyed getting to know the new characters, Addison Page and then meeting Tod’s boss, Levi. I wondered what Levi would look like and let’s just say that he was NOTHING like I was expecting but I’m not mad about it, I thought it was funny. Back to Tod, I’m really starting to like him more and more. I’d love to see more from him in future books, he’s such an interesting character. He’s a grim reaper but he’s also a bean sidhe as well. He’s something of a mystery and I’m drawn to his character.

Nash is such a stand up guy and I love the way that he loves Kaylee. He doesn’t like everything that she gets herself into but he stands by her and he does his best to protect her and goodness but that’s so flippin’ great.

This story was a good addition to the series but I liked the first book more. I think because everything was so fresh to me, so new that I was intrigued. I found myself disconnected from Kaylee from time to time, like I couldn’t understand why she was doing what she was doing and the way that she handled things with her Dad was definitely eye rolling but for the most part, I enjoyed the story. I missed Uncle Brenden, I was curious about him and it would have been nice to see how he was dealing with everything that went down in the first book. We get this quick glimpse into him and Sophie’s life but that was it. It was more of a teaser but still, I wish we got a little more.

It was good to see Kaylee, Nash and Tod back in action together. I loved getting to see them all yelling at each other one minute and then saving the world’s souls another minute. I’m greedy for more. I hope that we get to see more Emma in the upcoming novels because Emma rocks and I hope that she’ll finally get herself a man. I feel bad for her being the third wheel around Nash and Kaylee.

Overall, this was a good read and it’s whetted my appetite for more from the gang. I’d like to see Kaylee working with her Father more often to save the souls of those that need her help. It would be so cool to see her work with both her Dad, her Uncle and then Nash and Nash’s mother. This was another solid story from Vincent and I cannot wait to dig into the next book. Especially since I read somewhere that the author mentioned that in the next book there’s betrayal? I hope that Nash doesn’t betray Kaylee because I like those two together. I want to see more of them.

Would I recommend this book? Of course, if you liked the first book then I think you’ll like this one too.

It was supposed to be a fun day, shopping at the mall with her best friend. Then the panic attack started and Kaylee Cavanaugh finds herself screaming, unable to stop. Her secret fears are exposed and it’s the worst day of her life.

Until she wakes up in the psychiatric unit.

She tries to convince everyone she’s fine–despite the shadows she sees forming around another patient and the urge to scream which comes burbling up again and again. Everyone thinks she’s crazy. Everyone except Lydia, that is. Another patient with some special abilities….

This is a free short story and I ate it all up. This is a prequel to the series and reading it made sense of a lot of things from the previous books. Reading it made me admire the hell out of Kaylee because she’s been through a lot with her abilities and reading this short story also made me so pissed off at her Aunt and her Uncle and last but not least, her Dad. I understand that they thought they were doing the right thing but she was obviously struggling with her ability and she thought she was going crazy and they let her think it. I did not understand why they let her go through all of that. I didn’t understand why letting her go through all of that was easier than just being honest with her. For being adults, they sure were stupid.

This short story made me respect Kaylee and understand her more than I did before. It also made me a little more anxious for the next book so seriously, I need to hurry up and read it! There’s also this little storyline featuring one of the girls that was in the hospital with Kaylee named Lydia. I’m mighty intrigued to see what, if anything comes of that storyline. I’m hoping so but we’ll see.
