My Monthly Wish List: January 2011.

It’s the start of a new year and there are plenty of books that are coming out that I’m just itching to get my hands on. So many fantastic books are coming out this month alone so it’s left me with so much to put into this post so let’s jump right to it.

On my wish list for the month of January 2011 is:

1. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.

In the beginning, there’s a boy standing in the trees . . . . Clara Gardner has recently learned that she’s part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. I received this book for review and holy goodness it was good so the reason it’s on my wishlist is because I want each of you lovely readers out there that is reading this post to put this book on your wishlist because it belongs there right before you put it on your bookshelves. So good!

2. Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg.

After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn’t interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be — especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London. Lizzie is happy about her friend’s burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles’s friend, Will Darcy, who’s snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it’s because her family doesn’t have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk — so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway? Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making? Whatever the result, Elizabeth Eulberg, author of The Lonely Hearts Club, has concocted a very funny, completely stylish delight for any season — prom or otherwise.

Ames read Elizabeth Eulberg’s other book, The Lonely Hearts Club and I’ve always wanted to try this author out because of her review. This book sounds super cute and I’m anxious to dig right into it.

3. Mad Love by Suzanne Selfors.

When you’re the daughter of the bestselling Queen of Romance, life should be pretty good. But 16-year-old Alice Amorous has been living a lie ever since her mother was secretly hospitalized for mental illness. After putting on a brave front for months, time is running out. The next book is overdue, and the Queen can’t write it. Alice needs a story for her mother—and she needs one fast. That’s when she meets Errol, a strange boy who claims to be Cupid, who insists that Alice write about the greatest love story in history: his tragic relationship with Psyche. As Alice begins to hear Errol’s voice in her head and see things she can’t explain, she must face the truth—that she’s either inherited her mother’s madness, or Errol is for real.

This book is another book that I’m anxious for. I love romance and having a mother as a romance author sounds like it’ll be a whole lot of fun.

4. Across the Universe by Beth Revis.

A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder. Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules. Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn’t do something soon, her parents will be next. Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed’s hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there’s only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

I’ve been a lot of people blogging about this book and so when I finally checked it out for myself, I can see why everyone is so anxious for this one. It sounds like a fantastic book and that’s why it’s on my wish list for this month!

5. Subject Seven by James A. Moore.

Years ago, scientists began developing the ultimate military weapon: deadly sleeper assassins housed within the bodies of teenagers. Now, Subject Seven, the dangerous alter-ego living inside a 16-year-old boy, has escaped the lab and is on a mission. His objective? To seek out others like him and build an army capable of destroying their creators. I love the blurb for this book and I’m not going to lie, the guy on the cover is mighty cute so he’s a whole lot of the reason that I want to check this book out (some but not all). Doesn’t he remind you of a younger Greg from CSI (Las Vegas)? Who doesn’t love that guy? Haha. Don’t judge me. =P

6. Love, Inc. by Yvonne Collins.

Zahra, Kali, and Syd would never have met if their parents’ marriages hadn’t fallen apart. But when the three girls collide in group counseling, they discover they have something else in common: they’ve each been triple-timed by the same nefarious charmer, Eric, aka Rico, aka Rick.

Talk about eye-opening therapy. Cheerful, diplomatic Zahra is devastated. Rico had been her rock and sole confidant. How could she have missed the signs? Folksy, flirtatious Kali feels almost as bad. She and Rick had only been on a few dates, but they’d felt so promising. Hardened vintage-vixen Syd is beyond tears. She and Eric had real history…

Or so she’d thought. Now all three girls have one mission: to show that cheater the folly of his ways. Project Payback is such a success, the girls soon have clients lining up for their consulting services. Is your boyfriend acting shady? Dying to know if your crush is into you? Need match-making expertise? Look no further than Love, Inc.

Project Payback is always filled with such promise and these kinds of storylines always make me laugh so I want to read this book for that alone. The cover of the book is too cute too!

7. Awakened by P.C. and Kristin Cast.

“My love, speak to me. Tell me everything.”

Neferet went to Kalona, kneeling before him, stroking the soft, dark wings that unfurled loosely around the immortal.

“What would you have me say?” He didn’t meet her eyes.

“Zoey lives.” Neferet’s voice was flat, cold, lifeless.

“She does.”

“Then you owe me the subservience of your immortal soul.” She started to walk away from him.

“Where are you going? What will happen next?”

“It is quite simple. I will ensure Zoey is drawn back to Oklahoma. There, on my own terms, I will complete the task you failed.”

Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?

This is my YA crack. I’m behind on the series but that doesn’t stop me from wanting each and every book that comes out. I can’t help it, I want.

8. Never Been Kissed by Melody Carlson.

All Elise wants is to have her first kiss before she turns sixteen. Is that so bad? But when a friend’s poor advice and the powers of electronic technology combine, Elise heads down a dangerous road. She is accused of “sexting” and gets kicked out of school. But is she really the one to blame?

This powerful and realistic story from beloved author Melody Carlson shows teen girls the impact of their choices when it comes to respecting themselves and their integrity. Honest and relevant, Never Been Kissed will make girls laugh, cry . . . and think.

Oh man do I know all about this, not that it’s happened to me but I’ve seen it happen more times than I can count (in real life and in Hollywood) and I’m curious to see how Carlson tells this story. It sounds good and shows a lot of promise so why not?

9. Wishful Thinking by Alexandra Bullen.

If you could wish for a different life, would you? What if that life changed everything you thought was real?

I love the blurb for this book. It has piqued my interest like no other. I’ve already wondered over wishing for a new life…I don’t think I would but man would it be great to not have to worry about money or paying my bills on time or having enough money to last me until the next paycheck but really, I love my family and I’m grateful for everything that I do have…ugh, this is going to be one of those books where I take a serious look at my life and I’m so looking forward to jumping right in.

10. Choker by Elizabeth Woods.

What if the only friend you could trust turned out to be dangerous? A new thriller from debut author Elizabeth Woods!

Ooh, with just that little tid bit of information, I’m all in a tizzy to get this book. I love when a blurb can whet my appetite for more using just one sentence. I love the simplicity of the cover as well so of course, I put this on my wish list for this month.
