catch a falling heiress
Rowena’s review of Catch a Falling Heiress (An American Heiress in London #3) by Laura Lee Guhrke.

She’s an American heiress. He’s a devilish earl. When these two collide, the sparks ignite a shocking scandal in USA Today bestselling author Laura Lee Guhrke’s unforgettable Victorian-era romance.

Linnet Holland wants nothing to do with fortune hunters. No, she’s determined to marry a man who loves her. But just as she’s about to accept the perfect marriage proposal from the man she wants, the rakish Earl of Featherstone interrupts and ruins everything, including her reputation, with his smoldering kiss.

Jack Featherstone knows all about Linnet’s “intended”, and he’s determined she won’t fall prey to that villain as other women have in the past. But when his attempt to save Linnet ruins her instead, he knows he has to make things right. So he sets out to win this golden beauty . . . and prove to her that being ruined by him was the best thing that could have happened to her.

This is the third book in the American Heiress in London series by Laura Lee Guhrke. I haven’t read the first book but I did read and enjoy the second book, How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days. I enjoyed it so much that I was looking forward to getting this book read as well.

This book follows Stuart’s friend, Jack Featherstone on his road to true love. It was a road he didn’t know that he was on but the road he found himself on anyway. Jack is in New York, trying to help his friend Stuart bring down a very bad man. Jack will do whatever it takes to make sure that this bad man is ruined, even if it takes him years. Just when they’re about ready to ruin him for good, he meets the lovely American heiress, Linnet Holland. Linnet is back from a season in London and is determined to marry a hardworking American man and not an entitled money hungry British man.

But when those plans are derailed by an interfering British man, she gets good and pissed.

Now she’s back in London because she’s ruined in America and she’s determined to find a husband that is NOT Jack Featherstone. When she goes to Jack’s SIL for help, Jack is not far behind determined to do the right thing and marry Linnet. He just has to convince her to marry him. Easy peasy, right?

Wrong.

This was another great story in this series. I really enjoyed Stuart and Edie’s story so jumping back into this world for Jack was going to happen. I really loved Jack. He was witty and strong and just an all around good guy. He had a great personality and his arrogance? Yeah, I was a fan of how confident he was in himself. Considering the background he had, it would have made sense if he was bitter because of it but he wasn’t. His background and his childhood didn’t stop him from being a decent human being but it did shape the person that he became.

I loved that he was loyal to his friends (through and through, even when it would have made his life a lot easier to fess up about his real reasons for being in America) and I loved the love he had for Linnet once he realized that he did indeed love her.

Linnet was a lot harder to take at times because she was borderline cynical about everyone’s intentions. I understood why she felt the way that she did but she acted like a spoiled brat at times and that only made me laugh all the more when Jack would do something outrageous because she drove him to do it. I loved seeing her come into her feelings for Jack. I loved her Mom too.

The romance between Jack and Linnet was too freaking sweet. I mean sure, there were times when I wanted to wring Linnet’s neck because I thought she stayed mad at Jack for too long. But she didn’t know what I did about why Jack interfered with her and Van Hausen. All in all, this was a great read. It was enjoyable, the romance was great and the characters were fantastic. I really enjoyed it.
