It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything by Rachel Gibson. Rachel Gibson has always been an auto-buy author for me and while I still enjoy her books now, I’m not crazy for them, the way that I used to be.
This book is the follow up to Gibson’s last release, Rescue Me. Vince and Sadie are still living their happily ever after but Sadie wants to meet her sister (that we found out about in the last book) so Beau Junger is tasked (as a favor to Vince) with finding Sadie’s sister. He finds her working in a bar in Miami and living her life. When he approaches Stella to tell her about Sadie, he’s not surprised that she knows exactly who Sadie is. It’s Stella who’s surprised when she finds out that Sadie just found out about her.
With Beau’s help, Stella finds herself in a lot of trouble. She can’t go home and the only other place she can go to is….to Sadie’s. So Stella finds herself in a car with the sexy guy who came and got her then got her into a bunch of trouble with her boss at the bar (who has ties to the mafia) and she’s on her way to Texas to meet the sister that didn’t know about her growing up. To her father’s home. The same father that didn’t want to have anything to do with her.
This book is written with the Rachel Gibson charm that her fans are used to and while I enjoyed the book, it wasn’t my favorite. Both Beau and Stella were great characters and I’m sure they’ll appeal to readers all over the place but I miss the in depth look into the lives of the characters from her books. I didn’t connect with Beau and Stella the same way that I connected with Luc and Jane from See Jane Score or Sebastian and Claire from I’m In No Mood for Love. But still, this was good and I’m not mad that I read it. I’ll always read a Rachel Gibson book because she’s definitely an auto-buy author for me.
I’m curious to see if Beau’s twin brother Blake is getting his own book. I would read it, for sure.
