Holly‘s review of Losing It by Cora Carmack.

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible– a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if if that weren’t embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

Bliss Edwards decides she needs to lose her virginity. She picks a guy up at a bar and brings him home, only to freak out once there. She makes up a lame excuse about needing to get her cat from the vet and rushes out of her apartment in nothing but her underwear, leaving him behind.

As if the humiliation of that isn’t bad enough, it turns out her almost-one-night-stand is really her new theatre professor. That makes him completely off-limits, as students and teachers can’t date. But that doesn’t stop her from lusting after him..or from flirting. Which would be fine, except her flirts right back.

Add into it a male best friend who decides he wants to be more than, and Bliss is wonders when her quiet life got so out of control.

This was my first foray into New Adult. I’m not a fan of Young Adult because I don’t like to read about kids in high school. I think New Adult is a good compromise. The characters are still young, but they’re old enough to be out on their own.

I enjoyed this book especially. Bliss had a time of it. I couldn’t help but laugh when she rushed out of her own apartment. The poor girl. Though this is a lighthearted read, there was some unexpected depth. Her best friend’s feelings for her and the way that was handled really grabbed me.

Bliss tended to jump to conclusions, which resulted in quite a few misunderstandings. While I understood this was a personality quirk of hers, it got on my nerves after awhile. I also struggled a bit with the resolution. I’m not sure I fully bought it. I will say my heart melted a bit at the epilogue. What can I say? I’m a sap.

A cute, fast read. Predictable and fluffy, but with a fun, feel-good vibe. I laughed out loud a couple times and zipped through to the end.
