Ames’ review of Because I Could Not Resist by Beth Kery.

A heated argument between Francesca and Ian leaves the impetuous young woman alone again, and free to do whatever she chooses, and with whomever she desires. She’s not about to answer to any one man—especially Ian. Until he catches her. As he takes her to his penthouse, the tension is incendiary. One thing is clear for both of them. Francesca must be punished.

Outraged and unbearably excited, the naïve Francesca loses whatever control she had. After all, Ian is too dominant a man to fight off. She did disobey him. She does deserve it. Francesca just never realized how much she wanted it. But when Ian discovers how naïve Francesca really is, he wonders if taking advantage of such innocence is going too far, even for him.

All right, I do have a beef.  These installments, reading on a kindle, finish at around 75%  – the rest is a preview to another Beth Kery title.  So that excerpt makes me feel like I have a bit more to read when in fact I’m almost finished.  And each installment is only 2 chapters.  I’m glad I decided to wait until the whole thing was released.

Because I Could Not Resist picks up right where the first installment ends.  Ian couldn’t resist Francesca’s charms any longer and during an impromptu fencing lesson, he kisses her but then pushes her away.  Francesca wonders how this will affect her – will Ian want her to finish her painting?  Well Ian is a manipulative bastard and he tries to create a situation that will make Francesca finish her painting out of pride.  She tells him to shove it, that she will finish it and then he can pay her when she’s done.

Ian then tells Francesca not to come to his apartment on Saturday night because he will have company.  This hurts Francesca, because Ian has questioned her about her ‘experience’ with men.  She decides to go out with her roommates (three guys) for a night of stress relief.  When Ian hears that, he doesn’t like it.

Things get more interesting when Ian calls Francesca while she’s out on the town.

The heat definitely picks up with this second installment!  I liked that.  Ian and Francesca’s backgrounds are also revealed a little bit.  Francesca was overweight as a child.  Ian’s mother was crazy.

I like the defiance Francesca shows at the end of this.

Favorite line:

“Ian, do you like me?” she asked impulsively. Her eyelids sprang wide. She couldn’t believe she’d just blurted out the question that had been festering in her brain for days now.
Like you? I want to fuck you. Badly. Does that answer your question?”

It’s hard to say if I have connected to the characters.  I am curious to see how things proceed.  Ian is definitely overbearing, when he shows up when he does.  But it shows he cares about Francesca and doesn’t want her to make a decision she may regret later.

  1. That’s something that I don’t like about ebooks. The fact you don’t know where the books finish because of previews, acknowledgements and so on. Ugh.

Guess based on your grades that so far, the installments are consistent 🙂

  2. Nath-That really bit me in the very last installment, it was showing at 115 pages on my ipad and it finished around page 75. It’s frustrating!

I haven’t encountered it so much in other ebooks.
