Calvin Beaumont is supposed to marry Nicole. He’s a biology major, lab tech, and resident advisor—everything everyone expects him to be. There’s only one problem. He likes boys. In particular, a flirty dance major who was a freshman on his hall.

It’s sizzling summer at Holsum College, and Tyler Burk isn’t a freshman anymore. When he notices his hardworking resident advisor has same-sex feelings, he goads, teases, and tempts Mr. Bossy into dating on the sly. Cal may not be out, but he’s domineeringly hot, and Tyler doesn’t mind keeping things quiet…for a while.

But Calvin has wanted Tyler all year, and their sexting and secret rendezvous soon blossom into something neither one of them can control. Can Cal control his secret, as well as his sexy little brat? Or will he be man enough to admit he’s not the man everyone thought he was?
Calvin is from a small town and hasn’t come out to his parents. He and his girlfriend, who’s really more like a friend anyway, finally break up and he gives himself permission to ogle his dorm mate, Tyler. Tyler was a freshman the year prior and Calvin was is RA and the rules stated that they couldn’t date. Well it’s summer now and Calvin’s no longer an RA and Tyler is more than happy to let things happen between them.
Tyler manages to talk Calvin in to driving him to a local dance club, hoping he’ll get Calvin to himself instead of in the club. He’s correct and though Calvin is totally in to Tyler, he’s not willing to tell anyone about his sexuality.
The couple have their ups and downs – and texting plays a huge role in that – but before the relationship can go any further Calvin has to come to terms with the fact that he won’t be able to stay in the closet forever. If he does he might lose something and someone he wants very badly.
First let me talk about Calvin. He was raised in a small town in the Midwest and all his life he’d heard about all the things he’ll do in his life and how he’ll get married, have babies, etc. He’s known about his liking for men for a while but since he was dating a girl from his hometown, he’s scared to tell her and to tell his parents. He likes Tyler so much but I can’t help thinking that it was all lust induced. To explain that I have to talk about Tyler.
Tyler is just passed his freshman year and not only is he young he’s incredibly needy. I can’t remember if the book states when Tyler came out and I’m not sure if the past year was his first taste of freedom or what but from how the story reads he was used on a regular basis and then left high and dry – and that was ok with him. He thought he was “dating” Hunter (the rich ass that was mentioned in the previous book) but really Hunter just let him blow him and then would not call him. I liked Tyler but he just seemed SO young to me – much younger than 18 or 19. He liked Calvin but easily got his feelings hurt. He liked that Calvin bossed him around and it could be hot but I couldn’t help thinking that Calvin should have been with someone more mature. What did Calvin see in Tyler exactly? I never figured that out.
Though I liked the story in general I didn’t feel that it had a strong romance. It was kind of a friends to lovers thing, even though I think Calvin thought he and Tyler were better friends that what Tyler thought they were. The story implied that the pair texted a lot and that’s how they were communicating for the most part but from what we saw it was more sex chats than anything. I missed the parts where they should have been getting to know more about each other a bit more – even for men! lol. Yes, the story was good and hot and sexy and the end showed that they were be together longer but I can’t say I thought they should be. Maybe Daisy will give us a later “slice of life” for Calvin and Tyler when Tyler’s aged a few year. lol

  1. Chris – Yeah, I wanted more interpersonal time. I know they're men and men are great communicators (as we all know) but this is fiction so I can always dream. lol
