1. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa.
My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn’darkmyr Tallyn.
I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her.
My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl…
I have enjoyed this series more than I thought I would before I started Book One. I didn’t think it’d be my cup of tea but am so glad that I started reading it. I’ve enjoyed most of the books and with this book, we’re getting a story through Ash’s (my favorite) POV. I’m reading this book (thank goodness for NetGalley) soon and I cannot wait to dig right in.
2. Girls Don’t Fly by Kristen Chandler.
Myra is used to keeping her feet firmly on the ground. She’s got four younger brothers, overworked parents, and a pregnant older sister, and if Myra wasn’t there to take care of everyone, they’d probably fall apart. But when her boyfriend unceremoniously dumps her, Myra feels like she’s lost her footing. Suddenly she’s doing things she never would’ve a few months earlier: quitting her job, applying for a scholarship to study birds in the Galapogos, and falling for a guy who’s encouraging her to leap from her old life . . . and fly.
Set in the Salt Lake City area, Girls Don’t Fly is full of intelligence, humor, and is a refreshing change of pace for teen readers.
This book sounds like it’d be a cute read and I really want to read it. I like cute and light so I’m all about reading this book.
3. Audition by Stasia Ward Kehoe.
When high school junior Sara wins a coveted scholarship to study ballet, she must sacrifice everything for her new life as a professional dancer-in-training. Living in a strange city with a host family, she’s deeply lonely-until she falls into the arms of Remington, a choreographer in his early twenties. At first, she loves being Rem’s muse, but as she discovers a surprising passion for writing, she begins to question whether she’s chosen the right path. Is Rem using her, or is it the other way around? And is dancing still her dream, or does she need something more? This debut novel in verse is as intense and romantic as it is eloquent.
I’ve only read one book that was written in verse (well for pleasure anyway) and this book looks like it’ll be an interesting one. This book caught my eye because it reminded me of one of my favorite ballet type movies, Center Stage so I’m interested in reading this one because of that.
4. Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez.
Now is not the time for Carmen to fall in love. And Jeremy is hands-down the wrong guy for her to fall for. He is infuriating, arrogant, and the only person who can stand in the way of Carmen getting the one thing she wants most: to win the prestigious Guarneri competition. Carmen’s whole life is violin, and until she met Jeremy, her whole focus was winning. But what if Jeremy isn’t just hot…what if Jeremy is better?
Carmen knows that kissing Jeremy can’t end well, but she just can’t stay away. Nobody else understands her—and riles her up—like he does. Still, she can’t trust him with her biggest secret: She is so desperate to win she takes anti-anxiety drugs to perform, and what started as an easy fix has become a hungry addiction. Carmen is sick of not feeling anything on stage and even more sick of always doing what she’s told, doing what’s expected.
Sometimes, being on top just means you have a long way to fall….
This book caught my interest because of the blurb. I know there have been plenty of boys that have gotten on my nerves so much that I couldn’t help but want to kiss them so I’m very interested in reading this book to see how Carmen’s fall comes to life. Should be interesting.
5. Between the Sea & Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore.
For as long as Esmerine can remember, she has longed to join her older sister, Dosinia, as a siren–the highest calling a mermaid can have. When Dosinia runs away to the mainland, Esmerine is sent to retrieve her. Using magic to transform her tail into legs, she makes her way unsteadily to the capital city. There she comes upon a friend she hasn’t seen since childhood–a dashing young man named Alandare, who belongs to a winged race of people. As Esmerine and Alandare band together to search for Dosinia, they rekindle a friendship . . . and ignite the emotions for a love so great, it cannot be bound by sea, land, or air.
This book seems like it’d be interesting. I mean, I haven’t read anything with mermaids in them and this looks like it’d be a great introduction into that world. So on my wish list this book goes.
And there you have it, the books that made it onto my wish list this month. Lots of stuff to look forward to…so what books made it onto your wish list this month?
..and that’s your scoop!
