Ames’ review of Do Over by Mari Carr.
Sometimes once is not enough…
After twenty-five years of marriage, Faith Wainwright wonders what she’ll do next. Her kids have moved out and sometimes she feels so distant from her husband, Troy.
Right before their anniversary, Troy gives Faith an unexpected gift: a journey through their hometown to reenact all their “firsts.” Their first date. Their first kiss. And especially the first time they made love—only better.
Each stop on their tour becomes an opportunity for Faith and Troy to rediscover how explosive their passion can be. Now Faith knows exactly what she’s going to do—Troy, over and over again…
Faith is suffering from empty nest syndrome. She’s just sent her youngest off to college and she’s feeling lost. Compound that with the fact that her husband has been super busy lately and she’s feeling lonely. But Faith’s husband sees more than she thinks he does and he sets up a great anniversary weekend that takes her totally by surprise, and makes her fall in love with him all over again.
Do Over was sweet. Don’t go thinking that Faith and Troy are old – they married and had children young so they’re in their early 40s. They’re comfortable with each other but revisiting all their firsts rekindles some of those early fires and these two are ready to burn the sheets. And they do. They also discover some new kinks they didn’t have before. And Faith realizes that she kind of lost track of Troy in her own loneliness.
I’ve never read Mari Carr before and I really enjoyed Do Over. I like her writing style and will definitely keep an eye out for her other books. 4 out of 5

This is very close to being my favorite Mari Carr book. I reviewed it a number of months ago and while reading it was so taken with the wonderful relationship with these two, with the gentle but persistent respect and love that had survived time and children, and financial woes. Just one of those books that is truly “romantic” and which calls to all readers to enter into their experience. Very nice review.
Thanks DrJ! It really was romantic. Troy was something else. 😛
Definitely going to look for this one!
Love the idea of people long married falling back “in love” with each other.
