Tracy’s review of The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor #2) by Jill Shalvis.
Two Men Are One Too Many . . .
Tara has a thousand good reasons not to return to the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington. Yet with her life doing a major crash-and-burn, anywhere away from her unfulfilled dreams and sexy ex-husband will do. As Tara helps her two sisters get their newly renovated inn up and running, she finally has a chance to get things under control and come up with a new plan for her life.
But a certain tanned, green-eyed sailor has his own ideas, such as keeping Tara hot, bothered . . . and in his bed. And when her ex wants Tara back, three is a crowd she can’t control-especially when her deepest secret reappears out of the blue. Now Tara must confront her past and discover what she really wants. If she’s lucky, she might just find that everything her heart desires is right here in Lucky Harbor.
Take one uptight, controlling woman and put her into the hands of a laid-back, go with the flow sailor and what do you have? Sparks that fly right off the page.
Tara and Ford had a summer relationship when they were just 17 which resulted in a baby. They decided that they weren’t prepared for a child and that they needed to provide the child with the best upbringing they could which meant they would give her up for adoption.
Here they are 17 years later and Ford still wants Tara with a strong passion. Tara wants Ford as well but she’s afraid of what will happen if she gives in. The problem is that not giving in to Ford is making Tara even more of a crazy person.
Then Tara’s ex-husband shows up and has decided that he wants her back even though they’ve not been together for two years. Logan is positive that he wants Tara back but she’s not sure he wants the Tara that she is now back – or the one he thinks he remembers from their marriage…and that was a completely different person.
As if that’s not enough Tara and Ford’s daughter shows up as a beautiful 17 year old and has many, many questions that Tara’s not sure she’s prepared to answer.
Between Ford, Logan, Mia, nosey neighbors and a Facebook poll Tara’s life is spinning out of control and that’s just something she can’t let happen.
I really liked this book. Jill Shalvis has always provided me with great books and this one was no different. I enjoyed the characters, the setting, the passion, the humor – just everything about the story. I did wish that Ford and Tara had decided on their future together first and then dealt with the other issues as a couple but I guess they each needed to work through their individual issues first in order to fully accept their feelings for each other.
I also had such an issue with the nosey neighbors and residents of Lucky Harbor. Pictures were taken in secret at some points during the book and the thought of catching the secret photographer was never even mentioned. If I were Tara I would have been hopping mad and ready to find the person who had decided to invade her private life. But Tara was more controlled and I guess decided (though it wasn’t mentioned) that these were Lucky Harbor residents and they wouldn’t stop even if she asked. *sigh* Annoying. lol
Overall a fun read. I can’t wait for the next book, Head Over Heels, to get here. Too bad I have to wait until November!
