Another Challenge…I’m Going To Do It!

Posted December 15, 2010 by Rowena in | 10 Comments

I was pretty wary about participating in this challenge because I’m a great big chicken when it comes to trying out new authors but I’m going to do it. The Story Siren is hosting this awesome reading challenge and after putting together my Upcoming Releases for 2011 post (which will be posted soon), I’ve realized that there are a lot of books coming out from debut authors that I’m itching to read and this is the perfect challenge to get me to actually read them instead of keep them on a neverending list of books I want to read.

With this challenge, I will read them.

Here are the rules as told by The Story Siren herself:

2011 Debut Author Challenge participant information:

  • The objective of the DAC is to read at least twelve novels from Young Adult or Middle Grade Authors. While twelve is the minimum there is no maximum limit! I encourage readers who can read more than twelve to do so!
  • Anyone can join. You don’t have to be a blogger, and you don’t have to live in the United States.
  • You do not have to have an blog written in English to participate.
  • You can join at anytime. Deadline to join is November 20, 2011. The challenge runs from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
Qualifying books:
  • Books must be a Young Adult or Middle Grade novel.
  • DO NOTE: Just because a book has a teen character or is about a teen, does not mean that it is necessarily a Young Adult novel.
  • This must be the authors debut with a release date in 2011.
  • If an author has a previous novel published under adult fiction/nonfiction or children’s fiction/nonfiction, they can still qualify for the challenge if they are releasing their YA or MG debut.

And here is the list of books that I want to read over the course of 2011:

1. Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton.
2. Across the Universe by Beth Revis.
3. Choker by Elizabeth Woods.
4. Other Words for Love by Lorraine Zago Rosenthal.
5. Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison.
6. Where I Belong by Gwendolyn Heasley.
7. The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney.
8. Unlocked by Ryan G. Van Cleave.
9. The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter.
10. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier.
11. Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky.
12. The Sweetest Thing by Christine Mandelski.
13. Die for Me by Amy Plum.
14. Luminous by Dawn Metcalf.

There are so many other books that I want to read which I will add to as I remember them but this is the list that I’m going to start on. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand would have been on this list but I read that book yesterday, I couldn’t resist…it was good!

So there you have it, I’m throwing my hat into another challenge so wish me luck and let me know if you’re participating too, we can be buddies!

..and that’s your scoop!

  1. Some of those books sound super good. I’m not joining the challenge because I never know when I’ll get new books (too many factors) so I don’t know how often I can get debut books.

    😛

But I’ll keep an eye out for your reviews for the challenge *g*

  2. A lot of those sound really good! I might head over to The Story Siren and check it out. I mainly want to focus on my TBR in 2011 though, so adding a bunch of new books to that TBR might not be the best way to accomplish that goal 🙂

  3. YAY! I’m doing this one too! Did you create that badge?! I love it…I don’t remember seeing that one on Kristi’s website…I would have used that one! So cute!

Yeah and what’s great about this challenge is Kristi (The Story Siren) did all of the work for you, she’s got a list of debuts broken down by the month they come out..all I did was go and snatch titles off her list and now I’m participating, haha.

    It should be fun though.

Oh man, I really enjoyed Unearthly, let me know when you finish it. I’d love to discuss!

    Alex,

I sent you an email so let me know when you get it. There are a lot of books that I’m so looking forward to reading, I just hope I get to read them all.

    Danielle,

I so know what you mean but I’m going to try anyway. =)

    Hey Mollie!

Yeah, I’m glad to see people that I actually know doing this challenge. I’m super excited! I got the badge off Kristi’s blog. I thought it was adorable too, I love the colors! =)
