It’s a new month and there are new books to look forward to. It’s also back to school month, at least for my kid and so books have been one of the major things that we’re discussing around the house. Mostly, it’s me and my niece Chaylene but it’s all good in the hood.
Here’s a few of the books that I’m looking forward to releasing this month.
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “Duffy,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
I’ve been seeing this book around the blogosphere and I’m mighty interested to see for myself if I’d like it or not. I’m curious and a little bit antsy to read this one.
2. Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan.
Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something’s got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past. Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe–until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.
The blurb is what got me all interested in this one. It sounds pretty good and something that Chay Chay would enjoy with me. Must get this one.
3. Losing Faith by Denise Jaden.
A terrible secret. A terrible fate.
>
When Brie’s sister, Faith, dies suddenly, Brie’s world falls apart. As she goes through the bizarre and devastating process of mourning the sister she never understood and barely even liked, everything in her life seems to spiral farther and farther off course. Her parents are a mess, her friends don’t know how to treat her, and her perfect boyfriend suddenly seems anything but.
As Brie settles into her new normal, she encounters more questions than closure: Certain facts about the way Faith died just don’t line up. Brie soon uncovers a dark and twisted secret about Faith’s final night…a secret that puts her own life in danger.
There’s a lot of books either out or coming out that surround death. Death is a topic that has always intrigued me so I’m curious to see how this book pans out. The blurb is interesting though.
4. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare.
Magic is dangerous–but love is more dangerous still.
When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa’s power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by–and torn between–two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm’s length…everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world…and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
This is another book that I’ve seen around the blogosphere and all of the different reviews on it has made me mighty curious to see if I’d like it or not. I’m interested.
5. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
This is the book that’s been on my radar for the longest. The cover is what got me. I love it, think it is gorgeous and I don’t even care that that’s the main reason why I want to read this book. I mean, the blurb is great and it’s got me all kinds of interested but it’s the cover that sold me. I must have this book!
6. Where the Truth Lies by Jessica Warman.
On the surface, Emily Meckler leads the perfect life. She has three best friends, two loving parents, and the ideal setup at the Connecticut prep school where her father is the headmaster. But Emily also suffers from devastating nightmares about fire and water, and nobody knows why.
Then the enigmatic Del Sugar enters her life, and Emily is immediately swept away—but her passionate relationship with Del is just the first of many things that aren’t quite what they seem in Emily’s life. As the lies she’s been told start to unravel, Emily must set out to discover the truth regarding her nightmare; on a journey that will lead her to question everything she thought she knew about love, family, and her own idyllic past.
This book looks interesting and it caught my eye which is why I put it on my wishlist. I like the name Del and I curious to see how this book will pan out.
7. Girl, Stolen by April Henry.
Sixteen year-old Cheyenne Wilder is sleeping in the back of a car while her mom fills her prescription at the pharmacy. Before Cheyenne realizes what’s happening, their car is being stolen–with her inside! Griffin hadn’t meant to kidnap Cheyenne, all he needed to do was steal a car for the others. But once Griffin’s dad finds out that Cheyenne’s father is the president of a powerful corporation, everything changes—now there’s a reason to keep her. What Griffin doesn’t know is that Cheyenne is not only sick with pneumonia, she is blind. How will Cheyenne survive this nightmare, and if she does, at what price?
Can you imagine being sick and waiting for your Mom in the car and then the car that you’re in being stolen? I can’t even begin to imagine and then from there you’re pulled into a ransom that your father is going to have to pay to get you back, all the while you’re sick with pneumonia? Talk about crazy. I want!
8. Not that Kind of Girl by Siobhan Vivian.
Natalie Sterling wants to be in control. She wants her friends to be loyal. She wants her classmates to elect her student council president. She wants to find the right guy, not the usual jerk her school has to offer. She wants a good reputation, because she believes that will lead to good things.
But life is messy, and it’s very hard to be in control of it. Not when there are freshman girls running around in a pack, trying to get senior guys to sleep with them. Not when your friends have secrets they’re no longer comfortable sharing. Not when the boy you once dismissed ends up
being the boy you wants to sleep with yourself – but only in secret, with nobody ever finding out.
Slut or saint? Winner or loser? Natalie is getting tired of these forced choices – and is now going to find a way to live life in the sometimes messy, sometimes wonderful in-between.
I did a book watch on this book and so that itself should tell you how much I want to read this book. It looks like all kinds of good and I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!
There are so many more but I’ll be here for days trying to share them all so I’m going to stop here. Now that you’ve seen what’s made it onto my wishlist, what about you?
What books are coming out this month that you’re looking forward to? Share your lists!

I love being a librarian. I got both The DUFF and Immortal Beloved via a librarian listserv I follow! 😀
I’m hoping to get Clockwork Angel sometime this weekend! After Mockingjay, that was one of my most anticipated books for this year! Hadn’t heard of Girl, Stolen and Where the Trugh Lies both of those look interesting!!!
Awwh what about The Haunted? It’s the sequel to The Hollow. And Nevermore? Both sound like great books. =D
@Mollie: I’m jealous that you’re a librarian because you have access to all sorts of cool bookish things. =) Do you work in like the YA or Romance section like Wendy works in Romance?
@Anon: Oh, I’m sorry…I haven’t read either of those books or anything by those authors and I totally missed them. I’ll have to look into them. Thanks for the heads up!
No I’m actually in an Academic library but because I blog about YA books too I’m able to sneak in on the YA librarian listserv 🙂 As much as I’d love to have access to the public library collections. I don’t know if I’d be ready to go back to working with the “public”. Besides I love my students! 🙂
BTW, I think I’m getting an ARC of Beautiful Darkness via the listserv! Have you read Beautiful Creatures?! I really enjoyed it, lookig forward to this next book!
Ahhh, I see..still, you’re a lucky duck!
I haven’t read Beautiful Creatures. If you’re recommending it then I’ll add it to my list because you haven’t steered me wrong, you’re my favorite book pimp right now!
I just recently heard of Paranormalcy by Kiersten White so that’s one I will have to look into. And I have to admit I’m curious about Clockwork Angel I liked her first book City of Bones I think. But I never finished that series… I wonder if I should before I pick this one up.
I so have Paranormalcy in my wish list to!! 😀
IT just sounds awesome
I saw Not That Kind of Girl at Borders on Sunday and totally overlooked it. That was one I was looking forward to too.
I saw clockwork angel at the bookstore. Alas I passed it up cause I found the book i was looking for.
