Holly‘s review of Friendly Fire, from the Born on the 4th of July anthology (Vladden Brothers, Book 1) by Jill Shalvis

Friendly Fire by Jill Shalvis
Permanently injured on black-ops mission, Cord Vladden is furious at the world. Then Lexi McGowen reappears in his life to nurse him back to health. Little does he guess that’s she’s about to reveal a whole new world to him, one touch at a time…

So far I’ve only read the Shalvis entry in this anthology.

Cord and Josie have been best friends for years. They live next to each other and though she’s never told him, Josie has a thing for Cord. He’s been deployed for months and Josie decides to use his shower when hers breaks. Partly because she doesn’t want to deal with it right then, and partly because she’s missing Cord.

When Cord comes home and finds Josie in his shower, he isn’t sure what to think. He’s been in the hospital and without a woman too long not to notice how hot she is, but he’s in no shape to start a relationship with anyone. As the weeks pass, though, he comes to realize Josie is the perfect person for him. But she’s been hurt before, so convincing her might not be so easy…

I loved the way Josie took care of Cord. She gave him just what he needed to recover. She didn’t smother him or baby him, but she didn’t let him wallow in self pity either.  Cord was so sexy! I loved that he wasn’t magically cured – either physically or mentally – during the course of the novel, but gently healed as time went on. I liked that his feelings for Josie slowly morphed into love, instead of jumping straight from lust.

This was a sweet and sexy novel. Another winner from Shalvis.
