Ames’ review of The Feather by Red Garnier.
After years dedicated to business, lawyer Meredith Sinclair is having the wildest ride of her life. James Hamilton is everything she respects, admires, and desires in a man. So when James makes her the most indecent proposition she’s ever heard, Meredith can’t resist. That night, as he sends shocks of desire through Meredith’s naked body with a feather she’s treasured all her life, Meredith is overcome with something else: an unknown and consuming fear.
Then come the visions of Victorian England, of herself being sold to strangers for their sexual desires. Of James, a lord bound by duty. And of both of them-star-crossed lovers who must make amends with a strange and tumultuous past if they can ever hope for a future together.
I’ve heard good things about The Satin Sash by Red Garnier, so when I was given the chance to read the Feather, I took it!
This book was hot and spicy! Coming from Penguin’s Heat line, it definitely lived up to that label. *g*
Meredith is the in-house legal counsel for a company called E-Doll. The company is being taken over by Inctel, a bigger corporation, and Meredith has to work with their lawyers to hammer out the deal. The head of Inctel’s legal team is James Hamilton, a sexy, dominant guy straight out of Meredith’s dreams. And it isn’t long before these two are going at each after hours. But after one spectacular orgasm, Meredith faints and has a vision of the past.
In her vision, Meredith is Margaret, a french whore living in London. Just one month into her profession she meets Gavin Claymore, heir to a dukedom. And Margaret is the perfect woman for Gavin, except in one way: he can never marry her. And his inability to commit to her fully eventually destroys Margaret.
When Meredith comes to from her vision, she freaks out on James. She knows that they’re destined to come together and hurt each other over and over again. And this is where the Feather started to lose it’s sparkle for me. The build up to Meredith and James getting hot and heavy and then Meredith’s vision was great. The vision too was very emotional for me, just the kind of tragic thing I love to read. But when Meredith came to, I just found her reaction irrational. She was punishing James for events that happened in the past and that he has no recollection of. Very frustrating for me to read.
However, despite that one small bit, I enjoyed The Feather. Like I said, the love scenes were very hot and I was really caught up with Meredith and James’ journey to lasting happiness. That vision of Meredith’s? Very powerful. I can see myself re-reading that, it was very good.
