We’re keeping the Suz Brockmann love going with Jill D. from Romance Rookie. Jill has been so kind as to share her reasons for loving the author we all know and love, Suz B.
Anyone who is familiar with my website Romance Rookie knows what a fan girl I am of Suzanne Brockmann. I am a huge fan of her writing and she is one of my top five favorite authors. (And you know how hard it is to narrow the list down).
For me one of the greatest aspects of her writing is the way she is able to bring across a character’s voice. These characters just leap off the pages. Their personalities are so vibrant and moving that I almost forget that they are characters and not real people. When an author is able to make you forget about everything that is going on around you. You just shut it out everything else and only focus on the book you are reading. It’s a truly remarkable experience. That is typically what happens when I pick up a Suzanne Brockmann book.
Suzanne also has the tendency to have multiple story lines going all at once in one book. It sort of feels like a soap opera, jumping from one story line to the next. You might think to yourself that this type of storytelling could be frustrating. Instead, what you get is superior character development. Many relationships span the course of several books creating the necessary room for characters to develop and grow into their full potential. A reader can easily get hooked on one couple only to realize their story can’t be told in one book. Not to worry, Brockmann always delivers a happy ending. Readers just learn to be patient and allow her to tell each story her own way.
I really developed my full crush on Suz after I read the third troubleshooters book Over the Edge, which really was just a masterpiece of total awesomeness. In this book several story lines are juggled beautifully. Some of which are new and some of which are continuous from the previous books. My emotional involvement in the characters was so high that after putting down the book I thought of nothing but them for days afterward. Brockmann is just one of those writers who can just suck you in and have complete and total control over you as a reader. She is one author who I can trust in the driver’s seat.
I couldn’t agree more with everything Jill said, thanks so much Jill!

I totally agree with you on the whole characters leaping off the pages because that’s how it is for me when I’m reading a SB book. These characters are so vivid and so real that it feels as if they’re your close friends. You cheer for them, you want to strangle them and yet at the end of the day, you love the heck out of them. (well most of them anyway, haha).
