Rowena: I can remember it like it was yesterday. I had been posting regularly on the JGBB for quite some time now and had made some amazing friends. One of those friends was Izzy and she mentioned her love of KMM books. I hadn’t read very many authors outside of Linda Howard, Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood but I was ready for more.
More came in the form of Beyond the Highland Mist.
I was to read all of the highlander books by Karen Marie Moning and if I wanted, I could start at Kiss of the Highlander but if I wanted to start at the beginning, I was to start with Beyond the Highland Mist.
I started with Beyond the Highland Mist, then I read To Tame a Highland Warrior and then I glommed the heck out of KMM.
And loved every single minute of all of those wonderful books. I became obsessed with her highlanders, Dageus MacKeltar to be exact and KMM instantly became an auto-buy for me. I gobbled up every book that I could get my hands on and waited anxiously for her other Highlander books to come out and when they did, I had to have them.
It all started with Beyond the Highland Mist and after The Dark Highlander, I knew that I was forever going to love KMM.
Holly: My story is pretty much the same as Rowena’s. I was told I MUST read KMM, so I picked up Beyond the Highland Mist and that was that. I believe I was able to get the entire series (the ones that were out at the point) on ebay in one huge lot, so I read them all within a few days.
Looking back, I see the flaws in Mist and Warrior, but at the time I loved them. I’m going to re-read Mist first and see how it holds up. (ETA: I started re-reading Mist last night and I’m having a hard time getting into it. Not sure if it’s me or the book, but I’m starting to think it isn’t going to hold up very well.)
Casee: Kiss of the Highlander was the first KMM book I read. It was also the first time-travel. I discovered KMM fairly early on and had to wait for Daegus’ book to come out. I was disappointed (and still am) when she left her Highlander series to continue the Fever series. I’m still waiting for that last Highlander book to come out, but I’m not holding my breath.
What about you guys? What was your first KMM book? Did you love it or hate it? Tell us all about it.
I don’t remember which one I read first…maybe Dark Highlander? Of course upon reading one…I immediately had to have the rest! Holy cow! Still love them, but there is one I am trying to find that I haven’t read…Into the Dreaming. And I am loving the Fever series…but heck who wouldn’t want another highlander book?!
My first one was Kiss of the Highlander (that is Drustan, right?) and went on to read ALL of her books and her fever series is my absolute favorite. I have spent hours discussing those books with people.
*hangs head in shame* I haven’t read KMM before. But I did just order Beyond the Highland Mist from FictionWise and it is on my list to read for one of my challenges.
My first one was Beyond the Highland Mist. I loved it so I moved onto To Tame a Highland Warrior and then Highlanders Touch. I get most of my books from the library since that’s the only way I can support my habit, and my local library doesn’t have the rest of the series so I’ll have to go with the interlibrary loan for the next ones. I’m so thankful for interlibrary loans!
Ha! It started for me in the exact same order as Ro! My sister gave me her copy of BTHM to read, and after that I was hooked. I found Dark Highlander next, and when I realized that Kiss was a “prequel” ran to find it, and quickly devoured the rest of KMM’s books, and have been a faithful fan ever since.
Same as Holly and Rowena – was told to read them and finally did – that was that.
I started at the beginning right when the Highlander books came out. I don’t remember why I picked it up – I was in my Time Travel phase and loved Highlanders, most likely, so WIN! I agree with Rowena, I’m thinking those early books wouldn’t hold up well but the more recent ones do.
Maybe after she wraps up the Fever series, she’ll go back to the Highlanders? At least, she should write a book for [blanking] (the nephew in the Fever books), right?
Beyond the Highland Mist was the first KMM book I ever read…and I was hooked. She writes the best alpha males! Definitely an auto-buy author for me.
I have not heard of this author but I am excited to check her books out! Thank you for the great review!
I am ashamed to say I have not read any KMM yet. I would love to start maybe with one of your books.
I honestly can’t remember which one I read first. But I suspect it was Kiss of the Highlander (Drustan’s story) because whenever I think of KMM’s HIghlanders, THAT is the first book that comes to mind.
Word Verification: pordsork– sounds like something disgusting that the Highlanders ate, doesn’t it?
I read Beyond the Highland Mist first and was ‘eh’ about it. It was okay but not enough to rush out and get the rest of the series. A few months later I got The Immortal Highlander from the library, followed by Spell of the Highlander and those two cinched it. I HAD to read the entire series and luckily was able to get them in a lot sale on eBay.
I’ve also enjoyed the Fever series (though was iffy about the first book until nearly the end) and can’t wait for the final book!
