Author Spotlight: The Heroines.

We usually talk mostly about the heroes in our favorite novels. Our favorite heroes, why a hero is so studly, which hero we want to lick and so on and so forth. It’s rare that we talked about the heroines. I know that Kristie J’s favorite LK hero is Derek Craven, I know that Holly loves her some Sebastian St. Vincent (Sybil too), I know that Lori’s favorite hero is Nick Gentry but I couldn’t tell you who their favorite heroine is. I couldn’t tell you the first thing about what heroines spoke to them.

Because it’s not very often that we do talk about our heroines but that changes today.

Today we’re going to talk about what Lisa Kleypas heroine we want to be our friend. We’re going to talk about our favorite heroines dammit.

My favorite heroine is Daisy Bowman from Scandal in Spring. When I first met Daisy in Secrets of a Summer Night, I knew that I was going to love her character and as the series went on, I did love her more and more. By the time her book came around, I connected with Daisy more than any other heroine in any LK book. Her story reminded me so much of myself and her personality shone through each page. She was just a caring and warm young lady who I was was cheering on right from the very beginning. I love the way that she took charge of her situation toward the end of her book. I loved how she loved Matthew and the lengths through which she went after him. She is my LK best friend.

Who’s yours?

As much as Daisy is my LK best friend, the most memorable LK heroine for me is Haven Travis from Blue Eyed Devil. With Daisy, I connected with her because I saw a lot of myself in her. With Haven, I had nothing in common with her and yet, I connected with her, with her character. She was such a strong and brave heroine to have endured what she did and still come out on top. She overcame a lot in the course of her book and at the end, I was so happy for her. She remains the most memorable LK heroine for me.

What about you guys? Who is the most memorable LK heroine for you?

  1. My favorite LK heroine probably is Evie… and not only because she ends up with my beloved Sebastian !

She is the overlooked character. Her beauty, her strenght, her inteligence are known only by those who take the time to really get to know her.
I also love how she decided to take a chance on Sebastian in spite of her numerous insecurities… it was both corageous and romantic. Yep, she really is my fav LK heroine 😉

Ironically, my favorite LK heroine was a character I disliked upon first reading.

    Annabelle Peyton, from
“Secrets of a Summer Night”, annoyed me to no end when I read the book initially. I picked the book up for a re-read this past summer and for whatever reason Annabelle came across very different to me. Instead of arrogance, I read pride. Instead of cold & aloof, I read self-preservation. She wanted more for herself than just being a rich man’s mistress (which is what Simon Hunt was offering at the time – I must have glossed over this fact or been blinded by Simon’s hero qualities). She was attracted to Simon but spurned his advances for 2 years because she couldn’t look past his middle class background even though there was attraction. Coming from the upper class and being a female during this era, it was important that she held out for her best marriage offer. I couldn’t blame her for wanting that.

But when push came to shove, when Simon’s caring and feelings for her were more than she could overlook, when her own feelings for Simon couldn’t be denied, she admitted it and faced the consequences. That IS a heroine to me.

Plus, she risked her own life to save the hero’s…always a plus in my book!

I have no idea why but I rarely connect with a heroine. Its like i am watching them from afar. From Lisa Kleypas’ heroines though I liked Evie a lot. Haven’t read her contemps yet.

  4. Another genius question! And of course, I don’t have one answer for it.

Like many other Kleypas fans, I read her romance mostly for the heroes. But she does have some wonderful heroines.

My favorite is probably Lady Holland Taylor, because she’s so proper, until she’s not. And she dignified, and honorable, and kind and patient, and isn’t bigoted. And I admire her very much.

That being said, I also love Liberty Jones. She’s brave and resilient and dedicated to her family, and she’s someone who I’d love to be friends with.

So, yeah. That’s two. But I’m sticking with it.

I have two most favorite heroines: Daisy and Evie.
Evie was emotionally beaten down, yet she rose above her vulnerabilities and insecurities. Daisy lived in the shadow of her sister, yet blossed into a sweet, honest and loving heroine.

  6. While I loved all of the Wall Flower heroines, I think my fav LK heroine is Amanda Briers from Suddenly You. She was a bold woman in a time when women were oppressed…and think because she was who she was it allowed LK to write what I think is one of her steamiest romances (just one word…raspberries).

  7. Lori

I love Lottie. Of course. Cause it has to be the perfect woman for Nick, LOL. But seriously, she’s strong, she took control over her own life, and she holds Nick up when he needs it. She never judges him. She makes that relationship into a relationship.

  8. There are not many times for me when a heroine is enough to carry a book. It is all about the bloke for me!

If I have to choose, probably Amanda and Evie for me, and Evie really is all about one scene for me – where she seduces Sebastian. So hot!

  9. I think my favourite heroine is Liberty Jones from Sugar Daddy, followed closely by Haven Travis. Liberty is just so down to earth and ‘everyday’.

  10. My favorites are both Bowman sisters – Lillian because she’s srong-minded and feisty, plunges right into things; Daisy who’s more laidback and cheerful, but still has a spine in a different way than her sister.

My favorite LK heroine is Lady Aline Marsden in Again the Magic. I also have a fondness for Lillian Bowman because she is so moxie.

    Millie

  12. I think I like Evie best. I’m very quiet, but I like to think I’m as strong as her when push comes to shove. But really, I don’t want to choose between the Wallflower heroines because I liked all four of them. (It’s still easier choosing than if you asked about Kresley Cole’s heroines!)
