According to GalleyCat, Angelina Jolie is going to star as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, of Patricia Cornwell popular mystery series.
There have been a dozen (maybe more) or so books, but I stopped reading after the fourth or fifth book. I really enjoyed the series and can’t exactly remember why I stopped reading it, but I remember it starting to fall flat for me. The first few books I read were action packed w/ characters that I wanted to get to know. It ended up getting monotonous.
Angelina Jolie, Fox 2000 and author Patricia Cornwell are teaming up for a killer deal.
The studio is acquiring screen rights to Cornwell’s bestselling book series on medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, to develop as a vehicle for Jolie.
Mark Gordon will produce with Media Talent Group’s Geyer Kosinski. The studio, producers and Jolie are meeting with writers and will set one shortly. Bryan Zuriff will serve as exec producer.

I don’t know what readers of the series think, but I can totally see Jolie as Kay Scarpetta. But that may be b/c it’s been so long since I’ve read the series.
What Seneca said.
Definitely not how I imagine Scarpetta!
Not my idea of Scarpetta!
I never would have thought of her for Scarpetta, either.
I would watch Jolie if she was just standing there doing nothing.
I have a massive crush on her.
She’s not really how I pictured Kay – but I think she’ll be dandy in the part. She’ll definitely get the attitude and vibe right.
I’m curious on who they’ll cast as Marino. I could see either John Goodman or George Dzundza in the part – but they’re both probably “too old” now.
This isn’t the first time there have been talks of a movie version. Back when Demi Moore had a career (Ha!), she was linked to playing Scarpetta. Columbia let the film rights lapse, which is how Jolie and Fox 2000 got their hands on them.
As far as the books? In my opinion you should read up to From Potter’s Field….which kicked ass as I recall. After that they’ve gone down hill for me, although I thought this most recent book (Scarpetta) was an improvement.
AJ is too young and too not-blonde. I don’t usually get too hung up on the physical details when my books make the jump to the screen and characters are getting cast for real instead of just inside my head, but Kay Scarpetta is NOT HOT. Except for intellectually.
The series jumped the shark long ago, which may have something to do with your having dropped it.
