When it comes to the laws of attraction…
Payton Kendall and J.D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J.D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face to face, they’re perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they’ve kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as co-workers for one reason only: to make partner at the firm.
…there are no rules.
But all bets are off when they’re asked to join forces on a major case. At first apprehensive, they begin to appreciate each other’s dedication to the law—and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection doesn’t last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it’s an all out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar . . .
So Payton and J.D. have just found out that there will only be 1 partner chosen out of the two of them. They have no love lost for each other so the gloves are off and they will stop at nothing to get that partnership. The problem starts when they realize that the other isn’t quite as bad of a person as they thought they were and do they really want to sabotage the other person or get chosen on their own merit? Merit wins it by a mile. But that doesn’t quite stop some things from happening. Although there are arguments and antics that seem unforgivable these two come to think that as much as they don’t like the other, they do admire them for being a good attorney.
I loved this book. As much as I liked Just The Sexiest Man Alive I just loved this one so much more. It was such a wonderful story to get wrapped up in. I couldn’t seem to pull my eyes from the book once I started. I laughed out loud at several parts of the book. A couple of those I just kept laughing and couldn’t stop…my husband was looking at me like I’d lost my mind. I guess he doesn’t figure that anything could be quite that amusing in a book – he obviously hasn’t read Julie’s books.
J.D. and Payton were wonderful together…whether they were arguing or not their dialogues made for some darned good reading. The secondary characters in the book were fab as well – Payton’s friend Laney, J.D.’s friend Tyler and of course Perfect Chase all made the book that much better. In fact one of my favorite parts of the book is when Tyler and J.D. are in a cab and Tyler is trying to get J.D. to understand the necessity of being “nice” to a woman…it’s all about the gesture…and starts talking about Pride and Prejudice. Dear Lord I thought my stomach would pop I was laughing so hard with J.D.’s response. I don’t want to print it here and ruin it for you but it’s worth reading! Then there’s the ending. It wasn’t the ending I was expecting – it was so much better and it’s exactly the reason I read romance novels – the ultimate HEA.
This one has to be my favorite contemporary of the year so far.
Rating 5 out of 5
Wow a 5 out of 5?? Srsly? That’s HUGE coming from you. I disagree – I still think JTSMA was the better novel. This was a good read, though.
I normally avoid books about lawyers like the plague but I think I’ll pick this one up – this is the second glowing review I’ve read
Great Review!!
Now I really can’t wait to read it! I have 3 copies and have yet to pick it up. And there’s no rational explanation, other than I have a few reviews I committed to.
Loved your review Tracy!
Holly – lol…it IS huge for me – although I have changed my Angels’ Blood to a 5 star. I think that PMP was just fantastic. There truly wasn’t anything about the book that I didn’t like.
Tumperkin – It’s good stuff. 🙂 I’d be interested to see what you, a lawyer, has to say about it. Especially since it was written by a lawyer.
Cindy – thank you!
Stacy – Don’t wait it’s really good!
A 5 out of 5– wow!! Thanks Tracy, for the great review! I especially like the part about bursting out laughing while reading and your husband looking at you like you’re crazy. Even better is when my husband and I are watching TV or something and a funny idea for a book pops into my head and I’ll suddenly start cracking up in the middle of Lost.
Glad you enjoyed the book!
I absolutely adored both books, too. I loved the ending as well, and how they both, well… yeah, I don’t want to give it away either, but just saying it was LOL perfect, and touching and sweet, too. Both books were. She’s definitely an author to watch and has made it onto my auto-buy list.
Wow! A glowing review, indeed. I think it is time for me to read some Julie James!
Thanks, Tracy! 🙂
Julie – Thanks for stopping by! I truly loved both books but PMP was a perfect book for me. All I can say is thanks for writing great books! Yes, I do burst out laughing from time to time while reading but in this case I just kept laughing and I think hubby thought it was just a tad odd – probably even more so when I was wiping laughter tears from my eyes. 🙂
Lori – Definitely an auto-buy for me as well!
Christine – I think you would love both books. Now if you can find the time to read in between all your other real life stuff that would be great! lol
Sigh, lot of buzz about this book! I hope it holds up to expectation once I read it 😀
All I have to say is the court scene with Payton. I almost pissed my pants I was laughing so hard.
So far PMP may be my favorite book this year.
Thankfully I have this in my tbr. 5 huh? Wow!
